Pennsylvania Cell Phone Tax

The big three taxes inflicted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and its subdivisions are sales, property and income.

However, there are a host of sneaky little ones out there and they do add up.

Pennsylvania’s cell phone tax is 14.05 percent which is eighth highest in the nation. Washington State has the highest at 18.6 percent while adjacent Oregon has the lowest at 1.76 percent.

Note, this is on top of the federal 5.82 percent tax on wireless service.

A study  by the Centers for Disease Control found that 41 percent of American households have only cell phone service.

Sabotage Pipeline Plan Says Dem

A Democrat Pennsylvania state senator is telling opponents of energy to take legalities out of context to sabotage the  Sunoco Mariner East 2 Pipeline plan.

The proposed pipeline would transport natural gas liquids from the shale fields of western Pennsylvania to the Marcus Hook refinery complex on the Delaware River.

Andrew E. Dinniman, who represents the 19th District in Chester County, told members of the Chester County Sierra Club to use  Section 27 of the state constitution to encourage local municipalities to harass construction of the line.

Section 27 reads “the people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment.”

Well, yes. And it has been accepted that the state Public Utility Commission is the agency to ensure that the air and water et al are protected else if left  to every zoning hearing board between Marcus Hook and Houston, Pa., the project would be nickle and dimed into non-existence.

Refinery workers whose jobs and standard of living depend on the natural gas must be made to understand that it is their automatically deducted union dues that fund the campaigns of guys like Dinniman.

Chronic Wasting Disease Found In 10th Deer

The discovery of a 10th captive deer to test positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) prompted a informational meeting between The Pennsylvania House Game and Fisheries Committee and officials from the state Department of Agriculture and the  Game Commission, reports State Rep. Jim Cox (R-129).

CWD attacks the brain of infected deer, elk and moose, producing small lesions that eventually result in death.

The disease was first discovered on a captive deer farm two years ago. Currently, 31 captive deer farms across the state are quarantined, where deer cannot be moved on or off the properties.

There is no evidence that humans or livestock can get the disease. However, as a precaution, hunters are advised to not eat meat from animals known to be infected with CWD, Cox said. The Pennsylvania Game Commission offers to test game — for a fee — that may be infected with the disease. Information on testing can be found here.
