So what’s a tethered crop? About the only place you see the phrase is in song lyrics and photography.
In photography, it is when a photographer crops a photo while shooting tethered. Shooting tethered means having the camera connected via cable to a computer so the photo instantly appears on a large screen. It allows greater control of in-camera adjustments and more accurate lighting. Cropping is removing unwanted parts of the photo to create a close up.
In song lyrics, it can be found in REM’s End of the World as We Know It from 1987 with the verse “Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tetherd crop.”
When you apply the photographic definition it almost makes sense.
Answer to yesterday’s William Lawrence Sr Cryptowit quote puzzle: Just as in earthly life lovers long for the moment when they are able to breathe forth their love for each other, to let their souls blend in a soft whisper, so the mystic longs for the moment when in prayer he can, as it were, creep into God.
