A Post Racial Society Threatened?

On
the

Mc
Lauglin Group,
WHYY, Pat Buchanan and Monica
Crowley said that the NAACP has greatly damaged the possibility of
the U.S. becoming post racial by saying there are some elements in
the Tea Party Movement that are racist and that the Tea Party
Movement should address these elements. The NAACP has been accused
of having some racist elements within it also, after they said this,
and told they should address those elements. Of course this was done by a black member of the Tea Party.  I think that the
correct response should have just been, “We will do that.”

Why
all of the arguing and strife over what is obviously true from some
behavior at several rallies. Is it too much for people to expect to
not be spat on and called by racial slurs in our society? And does
becoming a post racial society mean allowing people to spit on you
and call you racial names and not saying anything about it? Is a
person organizing himself to protect himself from racist attacks
being racist? The civility, respect, and decency seems to have
totally disappeared and people seem to just want to strive, argue,
and win by any means possible.

Unfortunately, in a society that is
democratic and depends on people working together to support the
common good and commonwealth of the nation, such infighting doesn’t
work. My mother once told me that you have to be careful about what
you say when you are angry. Sometimes you can hurt a person so badly
that you can never take what you said back, even if you said it out
of anger and really didn’t mean it.

  1. John,

The reason why tea partyers get upset over allegations of spitting and racist name-calling by tea partyers is because it doesn’t happen.

Some say it happens, but that doesn’t mean it happens.

During the March 20 demonstrations against the passage of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, demonstrators were reported to have spit on and/or hurl racist insults at John Lewis, Andre Carson and Emanuel Cleaver.

Tea Party groups denied this occurred.

Now, it’s quite reasonable to think that with tens of thousands of screaming protesters a few racists might have been among them so it seems almost remarkable that of all the audio-video recordings that occurred during the event not one instance of a racist term has been found on them especially since a $100,000 award has been famously offered by Andrew Breitbart for producing such a video.

What has been exposed, however, is attempts by opponents of the tea party groups attempting to infiltrate the demonstrations and display racist signs. The way these infiltrators have been dealt with is by tea party members surrounding them and holding signs saying things such as “not with us” or “infiltrator”.

You’re Mom was a very gracious and intellent person.Too bad bigots like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Louis Farrakhan didn’t have a mother like yours.

  3. The person that spat on and the people around him said that it happened.  Most of the crowd was not in view of the incident.  Just because it wasn’t on caught on camera doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen.  I tend to believe the government official who was attacked more than I do a crowd of onlookers since he didn’t have any reason to make such an outrageous claim if it didn’t happen.

  4. But this is the point. It could very well have happened — I think it was Rep. Cleaver who said he was spat on — but if it did happen it was an exception and a rather rare one or at least some of these instances would have been captured by the camera.

Which means it isn’t fair to suggest that racism is a motivation of the Tea Party movement.

Next Tea Party event, I’m inviting you.
