Child Dismemberment Battle Continues

By Rev. Frank PavoneChild Dismemberment Battle Continues

On April 7, 2015 — which was Easter Tuesday, during the most intense days when the Church is celebrating the victory of life over death — Governor Sam Brownback of Kansas signed into law the “Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act.” This legislation, drafted by our friends at the National Right to Life Committee and carried forward in Kansas by our friends there at Kansans for Life, was the first of its kind in the nation, and protects children from the “D and E (Dilation and Evacuation)” abortion procedure, the most common type of abortion in the second trimester of pregnancy.

Since the late 1990s, when the debate on partial-birth abortion was raging, I began writing, speaking, and consulting with doctors and pro-life strategists about the fact that once we protect children from partial-birth abortion, the second phase of the process had to be protecting them from the D and E abortion procedure. I was therefore delighted to be asked by Gov. Sam Brownback to join him for a ceremony in which he repeated the signing of this bill on Tuesday, April 28. (Governor Brownback is a long time friend and ally with whom we collaborated on many projects when he was in Washington.) He made four stops at various parts of the state to have signing ceremonies to raise awareness among the public of the significance of this particular legislation. I had a chance to have a private meeting with him that day, in which I let him know how much of a priority we at Priests for Life are making it to see that this legislation is enacted in as many other states as possible around the nation. Oklahoma quickly followed Kansas in enacting this legislation the week after Gov. Brownback first signed it into law.

Interestingly, news reports, the day I was in Kansas, as well as news reports about this legislation during the months leading up to it, have a habit of saying things like this procedure is one that “the Governor describes as dismemberment”. Yet the reason he describes it as dismemberment is that the abortionists describe it as dismemberment. For instance, abortionist Dr. Warren Hern states on page 154 of his medical textbook Abortion Practice, “The procedure changes significantly at 21 weeks because the fetal tissues become much more cohesive and difficult to dismember….A long curved Mayo scissors may be necessary to decapitate and dismember the fetus…”

But opponents of the law cannot even say the word. When the debate was held in the Kansas senate, pro-abortion Democratic Senators Marci Francisco (D-Lawrence) and David Haley (D-Kansas City) spoke, but neither discussed the actual dismemberment method that the law prohibits. And a Planned Parenthood of Kansas and mid-Missouri press release could not even mention the name of the bill which it was opposing, lest people see the word ‘dismemberment.’

Instead, these pro-abortion extremists talk about how the law “will greatly hurt women.” That’s nothing more than projection, from people who turn the other way when females in the womb are being dismembered.

Baby Killing OK With Democrats

Baby Killing OK With Democrats
Debbie Wasserman Schultz (right) with former Congresswoman and abortion clinic director Allyson Schwartz at an Obama rally in 2012

Playing the “war on women” card, that worked so well in 2012 for the divisive win-at-all-cost power seekers that run the Democrat Party, GOP candidate Sen. Rand Paul was queried about abortion by the party minions that work in its AP  propaganda division.

Wrote AP’s Phillip Elliot: Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a newly declared Republican presidential candidate, is dodging a central question about abortion: What exceptions, if any, should be made if the procedure were to be banned?

He was then asked again about abortion and gave this answer:

“Why don’t we ask the DNC: Is it OK to kill a 7-pound baby in the uterus? You go back and go ask (DNC head) Debbie Wasserman Schultz if she’s OK with killing a 7-pound baby that’s just not born yet. Ask her when life begins, and ask Debbie when she’s willing to protect life. When you get an answer from Debbie, come back to me.”

So Ms. Wasserman Schultz then responded saying “Here’s an answer. I support letting women and their doctors make this decision without government getting involved. Period. End of story.”

So Paul then, correctly, noted: “it sounds like her answer is yes, that she’s okay with killing a seven pound baby.”

There is an obligation to protect the weak and helpless and obviously life starts somewhere. Ms. Wasserman Schultz has revealed in a rather definitive way that monsters now run the Democrat Party.

Pro Life March Ignored

Hundreds of thousands — some estimate a half-million— gathered for the 2015 March for Life on Jan. 22. The crowd was strangely not enough to garner much coverage in the corporate media. Pro Life March Ignored

Mother Daughter Abortion Story

Karen Reynoso’s mother, Miriam Kirk, accompanied her for her first two abortions. Karen would then have another two abortions without her mother’s knowledge. Mother Daughter Abortion Story

When regret and remorse begin to impact the lives of post-abortive women, a mother-daughter relationship like that can be torn apart. But Karen and Miriam actually drew closer, and they will talk about the healing they both found on “The Gospel of Life” at 6 o’clock tonight, March 3, on Radio Maria with host Janet Morana, executive director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign.

After receiving healing in 2003 through a post-abortion Bible study, Karen began facilitating Bible studies for other women.  Karen also served as a regional coordinator for the Silent No More Awareness Campaign from 2004 to 2010 and was part of a team that led three 40 Days for Life Campaigns in 2009 and 2010.  Karen has served on the board of directors of CHOICES Women’s Resource Center since 2010.

In 2013, she attended a Deeper Still weekend retreat and the Lord took her deeper still in her healing.  After the retreat, Karen, her mother and two other women felt compelled to bring Deeper Still to Southern California and began a Chapter in Fallbrook, CA.

Karen is employed as an environmental consultant. She and her husband, Art, have been married since 1996.

Miriam has been involved in pro-life and abortion recovery ministries since 2006. She joined Fallbrook Pregnancy Resource Center as a bookkeeping volunteer and eventually became a board member and then board treasurer.   As she watched Karen progress on her healing journey from her abortions, Miriam recognized the gravity of her own part in that journey. She says that she and Karen have been blessed to be able to work together to extend healing to others with abortion- wounded hearts, and she  also has a yearning to bring restoration and healing to men and other family members who have been touched by abortion.

Miriam and her husband, Jim, are retired and have four children, more than 20 grandchildren (including blended and married) and six great-grandchildren.

David Williams: Father’s Abortion Pain

Pastor David Williams is sharing his heartbreaking post-abortive story on Priest for Life’s Radio Maria. Pastor David Williams is sharing his heartbreaking post-abortive story on Priest for Life's Radio Maria. David was 19 and a sophomore

David was 19 and a sophomore in college when his first girlfriend got pregnant and they decided to abort their child. But the young woman was traumatized, and the relationship ended soon after the abortion. He began to drink heavily and became promiscuous, but somehow kept up with his studies and graduated with honors.

After he graduated from college and was working his way up the career ladder, David got involved with a woman at work, and she soon discovered she was pregnant. He knew he didn’t want to go through another abortion, so he became, in his words, “pro-life by default.” He married the mother of his child, even though he knew he didn’t love her. “Nothing changed about me except I had a ring on my finger.”

He was still drinking, still sleeping with other women, and he began to develop the same kind of anger that had plagued his father and ended his parent’s marriage. When his son was born, he found he couldn’t even get excited. When he and his wife separated, he felt like he had the best of both worlds. He could see his son when he wanted to, and continue his wild life “without feeling bad about it.”

But the day he watched his wife and son driving away in a U-Haul, and then attended a niece’s birthday party, he felt like “someone took a pin to the hot air balloon of my life. The weight of my sin had become too great.”

Later, when he was alone at home, “it was like God found me in my apartment.” He asked for help with his drinking, his cursing, his promiscuity. From that day, when he was 26, until he married four years later, he was chaste and sober.

But even with his new wife and their children, he still had eruptions of anger and depression. He found it hard to bond with his children, and couldn’t grieve for his mother when she died.

It wasn’t until he was asked to speak at a pregnancy center banquet and was working on his talk that he realized he had never sought forgiveness for his abortion decision, nor forgiven his mother for supporting that choice.

“The Lord allowed me to see the weight of that sin as I had never seen it before,” he said, “and as I spoke that night, I realized God was calling me to be a champion of the unborn.”

His frank talks about abortion, grief and the healing possible through Jesus are now reaching men all over the country.

The live aired Tuesday. It will be repeated 2 a.m. Thursday and midnight Sunday.  All the shows are archived at www.priestsforlife.org/radiomaria.

Abortion Bans Save Lives

Abortion Bans Save Lives

Breitbart.com is reporting that Chile’s abortion ban has saved lives.

Since the South American nation instituted the ban in 1989, the number of maternal deaths has decreased from 41.3 to 12.7 per 100,000. This is a 69.2 percent reduction and puts Chile in second place behind Canada for the lowest maternal mortality rate in the Americas.

That’s right, it’s ahead of the USA.

And no, despite the propaganda of those who promote abortion, the women in Chile are not resorting to illegal abortions because of the ban.

Abortion Bans Save Lives.
Hands up, don’t abort.

Prepare Way of the Lord

By Fr. Frank Pavone

‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ Quoting the Prophet Isaiah, John the Baptist calls on the world to prepare the way for Christ, and hence, once again, we live the Spirit of Advent.

He says, furthermore, continuing the quote from Isaiah, “Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth” (Luke 3:5).

Our world is full of crooked roads, winding under the shadow of death. It is a world disgusted with the murderous acts of ISIS and weary of the racial divides in Ferguson, MO. And with a deeper destruction and greater number of victims than these or any other evils, abortion continues to tear apart children in the womb, their families, and our whole society. Ours is a world that needs Advent, a world that needs Christ.

Christ’s coming ushers in the final triumph of life over death. The preparation for that coming, therefore, includes repentance from the works of death, including abortion. Not only individuals but nations likewise need to repent. This repentance includes living with active respect for every human life, and building a society of justice and welcome for the most vulnerable.

“Prepare the way of the Lord”, who is a God of Justice. “Every valley shall be filled” – the valleys where people languish because their rights are trampled, their dignity forgotten, and their lives thrown onto the outskirts of society. “Every mountain and hill shall be made low” – the mountains of pride whereby we think our own choices determine what is right and wrong, rather than submitting our choices to the truth that became visible when Christ was born.

Promoting justice and human rights is a key element of our preparation. A society that aborts its children is not prepared for the coming of Christ. Individuals who ignore the massive slaughter of tens of millions of babies are not prepared to welcome the God who became a little baby.

The Christmas hymn “O Little Town of Bethlehem” relates that “the hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight.” Throughout the millennia of history, the human heart has been torn between hope and fear. We fear the menace of death, destruction, and meaninglessness. Yet we yearn in hope for One who can save, protect, and fulfill us. And how does that One, foretold by the prophets and by the mighty acts of God’s intervention to save his people of old, finally come to us? He comes as an unborn child. The almighty Son of God did not appear on earth as a king on the clouds or an adult teaching his message. He first appeared by being hidden in the womb of his mother. He first appeared so small that the naked eye could not see him. He came through a pregnancy and lived as a child in the womb.

Hence the great encyclical The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae) reminds us that the joy of the birth of Christ is reflected in the joy of the birth of every child.

May we prepare to welcome Christ by welcoming and protecting every unborn child. Happy Advent!

Terry Beatley Describes Pro Life Journey

Terry Beatley was a home-schooling stay-at-home mom when, while studying about the abolition of slavery with her children, she became an advocate for the unborn, says Father Frank Pavone of PriestsForLife.org.

“America overcame slavery only to dehumanize another category of people – preborn babies,” said Terry, who will join Janet Morana six o’clock this evening, Nov. 25   on Radio Maria’s “Gospel of Life” where she will discuss the journey that led her to found the Hosea Initiative, a grass-roots project dedicated to educating and empowering women with the truth about abortion.

Janet and Terry will also discuss a mutual acquaintance, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, an architect of the abortion movement who later in life realized the truth about the brutal nature of the procedure and the harm it caused women. Dr. Nathanson spent the remainder of his life working to spread the truth about what “a woman’s right to choose” really means.

Woman Describes Her Abortion, Healing

For years after she and her husband made the decision to abort their first child in January 1974, Karen Perez couldn’t think of the person who died that day as a child.

“I could only refer to my first child as an ‘abortion.’ It was too painful to personalize the life I chose to take; to call him a child, or a baby,” she says.

Karen will join Priests for Life Executive Director Janet Morana on Radio Maria’s “Gospel of Life” at 6 tonight,  Nov. 18   to talk about the healing she received after her abortion, and the pro-life activism that runs through her family as a result.

When Karen returned home on the day of her abortion, she turned on the television and saw news footage of the very first March for Life in Washington, D.C.

The date was Jan.  22, the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. She knew then that she would never forget the day she said “no” to life.

“My husband and I went to confess to a priest immediately,” she said.

The birth of their three children filled the couple with guilt but they eventually found help through a post-abortion healing program, and since then they have been leaders in pro-life efforts in Houston. Their oldest son is a Catholic priest who also leads healing retreats through Rachel’s Vineyard. And Karen now calls her aborted child by name, Joseph. She has received numerous assurances that she chose the name wisely, and will share those stories with Radio Maria listeners.

Also joining Janet will be Priests for Life Pastoral Team member Kevin Burke, L.S.W., co-founder of Rachel’s Vineyard and head of Silent No More’s Fatherhood Forever initiative. Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, will join Janet for the final segment.
