North Korea Not Behind Sony Hack?

Sony Pictures computer network was the subject of a massive security breach on Nov. 24 and reams of embarrassing documents were leaked to the public.

Something calling itself the Guardians of Peace using the ironic acronym GOP took credit on Dec. 9 and demanded  that the studio cancel the Seth Rogan comedy “The Interview” that was scheduled to be released Christmas Day.

The film features the killing of North Korean communist dictator Kim Jong-un. North Korea, while praising the hacking, denied responsibility.

On Dec. 11, the GOP released hacked data describing Sony projects aimed at stifling piracy of its products. On Dec. 13, it released data exposing investigations that Sony was bribing Chinese officials.

On Dec. 16, the GOP sent out a notice implying there will be terrorist attacks at theaters showing the movie.

Sony pulls the film on Dec. 17 and announces that  it has  “no further release plans for the film.” President Obama  makes a televised statement  that night saying that Sony shouldn’t have done it and should have checked with him.

Sony CEO Michael Lynton — a one-percenter and a personal friend and major supporter of Obama — responds to the President on Dec. 19 saying  “I did reach out. We definitely spoke to a senior advisor in the White House to talk about the situation. The White House was certainly aware of the situation.” He also says the studio plans to get the movie to the public.

Also, on Dec. 19, the FBI makes it official that North Korea was behind the hacking. It had been leaked to the media two days earlier that North Korea was suspected.

On Christmas Eve, Sony makes “The Interview” accessible on streaming services and gives it a limited theatrical release the next day.

It gets mediocre reviews.

And that gets us to today. Computer security experts are  saying the evidence as to who is the cause for all the fuss now indicates a disgruntled employee working with hackers for piracy groups. They are wondering why the FBI was so quick to release a statement pinning the actions on North Korea.

“When the FBI made the announcement so soon after the initial hack was unveiled, everyone in the [cyber] intelligence community kind of raised their eyebrows at it, because it’s really hard to pin this on anyone within days of the attack,” said Kurt Stammberger of Norse.

Errata Security‘s Robert Graham goes so far as to call the FBI evidence “nonsense.”

The Taia Global security firm, says a linguistic analysis of the hacker’s messages indicates Russian speakers rather than Korean.

For the record, the FBI is sticking to its North Korea claim. But the quickness of its conclusion and the doubts of non-government experts do make one go hmmmm.

For what it’s worth, our favorite conspiracy theory is that Obama is doing this as payback to Lynton to help him pump up an otherwise forgettable film.

Regardless he should be impeached. Even Biden would do a better job and that’s saying a lot.

Kim Jong-un Burned Alive Ends The Interview

Kim Jong-un Burned Alive Ends The Interview

Here is the ending to The Interview, the movie that Sony Pictures has pulled from distribution due to threats from North Korea and having had its cyber-stored secrets revealed in a hack attack.

The man being burned alive is North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, which is something he’s been known to do to his political opponents.

The movie is allegedly a comedy by Seth Rogen who is sort of a modern day Three Stooges minus two stooges. Note we didn’t say Charlie Chaplin. We said Three Stooges minus two stooges. There are no tender moments of pathos in a Seth Rogen film.

The movie gives Little Kim the same treatment the Stooges (and Chaplin for that matter) gave Adolph Hitler except in an edgier way.

Anyway, Kim felt the film was a threat to his power so he took action against the Japanese-owned, Hollywood-based studio thereby guaranteeing a massive hit when the movie is inevitably released — you know movies can be released online now, not just in theaters, right Kim? This means that just about everyone in the world will see his ugly face get its just deserts.

And if Kim really has managed to dig up some uber juicy blackmail stuff on the Sony honchos to keep them continuing to make copyright complaints against the forces of samizdat, well, having the film distributed by  bootleg and become super hip and cool will only make things worse for the dictator.

Loren Kantor Woodcut Artist

We got a nice personal email from Los Angeles woodcut artist Loren Kantor promoting her site and the subjects on it.

One of these days we are going to start charging for this stuff but, with the inspiration of Pope Francis, we are going to cut Loren a break, pay it forward and help out a starving artist.

Here is Loren’s site and here is her depiction of noted director David Lynch, who gives full credit to the time he spent in Philadelphia for his bleak and bizarre visionary productions and international success.

America Movie Oscar Pedigree

Maybe Hollywood is finally waking up.  Dinesh D’Souza’s sleeper hit America: Imagine a World Without Her has a pretty good Oscar Pedigree with Gerald Molen, who produced Schindler’s List and co-produced Rain Man, as producer and Gray Frederickson, who produced The Godfather and the Godfather Part II and Apocalypse Now as associate producer.

Frederickson describes what some are thinking in this article on

If you are interested in seeing America: Imagine a World Without Her here is where it is playing in Philadelphia’s western suburbs.

FYI, it appears that Costco’s decision to pull the movie’s book companion from its stories was political.

Costco has been been a big donor to Obama whom the book and movie harshly criticize.

Did you know one needs a photo ID to get into a Costco? Of course, it’s not like one is trying to vote or anything.

Lyrics Good the bad and the ugly — The lyrics to  the theme of “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” are “Go, go, go Manco”

Manco means one-armed in Spanish. It was what Clint Eastwood’s character was called in the preceding “For a Few Dollars More” because he did everything left-handed except for shooting.

In “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” Clint’s character was called “Blondie”.

Officially, he is referred to as “The Man With No Name.”

Go figure.

Foxcatcher, Delco Shines Again

Foxcatcher, Delco Shines Again Du Pont portrait

John du Pont’s official portrait in Foxcatcher sweats on display at his estate sale in 2011 for which he paid artist Hubert Shuptrine $100,000.

Delaware County, Pa. on Feb. 22 has a better than even chance of making another Oscar appearance  — Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress for 2012 for Silver Linings Playbook — as Foxcatcher was a finalist for the Palme d’Or at the recently ended Cannes Film Festival.

The prize went to Winter Sleep, a Turkish film about class struggle (or something) in that country. Don’t expect it to compete for Best Picture.

Foxcatcher concerns the Jan. 26, 1996 murder of Olympic gold medal wrestler Dave Shultz by John du Pont at du Pont’s Foxcatcher estate and training facility in Newtown Township. It’s based on the autobiography of Shultz’s brother Mark, who was also an Olympic gold medalist that trained at the estate.

I knew du Pont. I even have an autographed copy of his book Off The Mat, which was clearly created by an abjectly bored ghost writer granted unwise access to a list of cliches.

He was nuts. You would never believe his answering machine.

I did not know Shultz who had a reputation of being a decent family man who sent his kids to the local public school, Culbertson.

Hopefully, that comes through.

James O’Keefe

James O’Keefe, who may be the nation’s gutsiest journalist, has Hollywood actor Ed Begley Jr., actress Mariel Hemingway and director John Tickell on tape willing to sell this country to Islamic oil interests for $9 million.

A Project Veritas operative posing as a “Muhammad” from a Mideast oil family offered the money to fund an anti-fracking movie because “if Washington D.C.  continues fracking, America will be energy-efficient and then won’t need my oil anymore.”

“Sounds good” the Hollywooders said.

Please understand that those so smugly asserted as heroes in our entertainment are so asserted by people who have no understanding of right and wrong, and no concern about what’s in your best interest.

The same applies for those they claim are villains.

Gosnell Movie Reaches Goal

Expect to see a movie  about the monster from Philadelphia who performed abortions for decades with a nod and a wink from “pro choice” state officials.

The Kermit Gosnell project led by Phelim McAleer and crew has reached its $2.1 million crowdfunding goal via Indiegogo.

Gosnell killed more people than Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacey, The Zodiac Killer and Ted Bundy combined at 3801 Lancaster Ave., McAleer points out yet he remained a respected and protected member of the nation’s self-proclaimed “smart set” up until the end.

Well, maybe even after the end. McAleer et al initially tried to crowdfund at the better known Kickstarter only to find obstruction and rejection.

We are small but proud contributor to the project.

Movies Attract PredatorsMovies Attract Predators — Eighties child stars Corey Feldman and Allison Arngrim have described the pedophilia rampant in Hollywood in their heydays, and Anne Henry of BizParentz Foundation says it is even worse today because of the greatly expanded entertainment market, and the internet that allows predators greater access.

California has passed a bill in response prohibiting registered sex offenders from working with children in the entertainment industry and requiring fingerprints from anyone working with children.

Perhaps it is time for Pennsylvania to consider such a law. It does have its own movie studio now.
