Roman Colosseum Jewish Slaves — The Roman Colosseum has not a noble history. Its construction was funded by loot from the Jewish Temple taken after the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Many Jewish slaves were used to build it and thousands of Christians were martyred there in public exhibitions before large crowds.
The average attendance is estimated at 65,000.
The name comes from a colossal statue of the not-so-nice Emperor Nero that was nearby and was coined in the Middle Ages.
The Romans called it Amphitheatrum Flavium.
