In the 19th century, it was thought that feeding horses beans would cause them to do well in races and those that won spectacularly were said to be “full of beans”. The phrase was eventually shortened to “some beans” to describe a spunky, gutsy person. In the 1960s, it morphed into “cool beans” as a statement of approval. And now you know something you have been wondering about since 1969. Cool beans.
