Dueling was a real problem back in the day. It is believed that in reign of Henry IV of France (1553-1610) about 4,000 of the upper class died in duels.
I disagree with the author. I think more people with act a little more politer, if they thought they could be killed for doing or saying something inappropriate at the wrong time. Gradually, those who couldn’t behave would cull themselves from the population.
But then you’d end up like France 🙂
