Elmore Leonard R.I.P.

Elmore Leonard R.I.P. — Author Elmore Leonard died this morning, Aug. 20, at his home in in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. He was 87.

Mr. Leonard was a  Navy veteran of World War II who wrote numerous best sellers many of which were turned into major motion pictures. They ranged from westerns such as Valdez is Coming and Hombre  starring Burt Lancaster and Paul Newman, respectively to action dramas such as Mr. Majestyk, and humor-tinged yet violent crime stories such as Get Shorty and Rum Punch which became the film Jackie Brown.

The western-classic 3:10 to Yuma was based on a short story he wrote in 1953. The FX series Justified  is revolves around his character U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens who appears in several of his novels.

R.I.P. Mr. Leonard.
