Don Adams of Independence Hall Foundation tells us that center-right WPHT radio host, Gary R’nel, will no longer occupy the mic at the Big Talker studio in Old City.

“R’nel, who is affectionately known to listeners as “Gary ba-by,” will be impossible to replace due to his quirky sense of humor and his congenial personality,” Adams said. “We found his show most interesting because he quite often refused to tow the ultra-conservative line.”

  1. R’nel was good on drug addiction because as he said it had affected his family directly.
He was not as right wing as most and that did bother me at times .

  2. Personally, he put my feet to sleep. The whole BABY thing was so annoying. Also, he wasn’t very well read on issues. He often lacked critical thinking skills, but then again, so does Dom Giordano. Don’t know why they keep him.

  3. Dictionary definition of “annoying”. How he lasted so long is beyond me. He’s good if you want people to switch away from your radio station. And he’s not even well-informed, to boot. During the year he was on the air with Dick Morris it was like pairing up George Will with Fred Flintstone. I think the management at WPHT must have been influenced a bit too much by George Costanza’s rule of “do the opposite, and it’ll work.”

  4. I sure do miss Gary! He was the most down to earth, sincere and passionate radio host I’ve ever heard! I would like to know what he is doing now. Carin
