Professional employment guidance, fellowship and free sit down Italian dinner will be available for those who attend 8th Annual Joseph’s People Retreat on Feb. 16. This year’s retreat is titled “Advancing Your Career in a Stressful Job Market”. The event, which is highlighted by two experts in their field, is 1:30-6:30 p.m. in the McShain Conference Center at the Malvern Retreat House, 315 S. Warren Ave., Malvern. Harriet Stein, a “mindfulness” specialist, and Ed Samuel, a senior Executive Career Coach, will be the speakers. 

Ms. Stein, who has taught mindfulness for a decade at Johnson & Johnson, will demonstrate how to integrate this skill into daily life when searching for a job. She will teach how to build a practice into the day with formal and informal activities, improve awareness which will enable increased clarity and foster greater decision making. Ms. Stein learned mindfulness from Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, Founder of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She also completed advanced teacher training at the Myrna Brind Center for Mindfulness at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Ed Samuel, a senior Executive Career Coach and founder of SamNova, Inc, will lead a discussion on the best practices to optimize your job search. Ed will touch on key actions that have made a difference in clients landing jobs, including resume tips, LinkedIn Profiles, engaging in the hidden job market, combating ageism and interviewing musts. He will explain the best practices for each and talk about client success stories. Mr. Samuel has led over 150 executive networking forums with more than 2,750 executives over the last 12 years. He is a summa cum laude graduate from Wilmington University. 

Joseph’s People is the Philadelphia Region’s largest pro bono job search group. The retreat is offering complimentary job search education, motivation, meal and an optional Catholic mass.
