Apparently it is still possible to take passage across the Atlantic the old-school way, though, and that would be interesting. Friends of mine did several years ago, on a British ship. They were going to Italy for a wedding. The cruise took a week, I think.
But Carnival, or Princess, or those other floating buses? Fegh!
Absolutely agree. Captive audience for disease and maybe a lot of people one really doesn’t want to be with! I find the sheer size of them appalling. And I think it’s been way underreported, although there has been some reporting, about the huge environmental impact of these monstrosities.
The idea of the river cruises in Europe seems kind of nice. But maybe I’ve been seduced by the nice ads for Viking River Cruises on PBS!
