P.O. To Close On Brookside Road Friday

The United States Post Service will end Friday its half-century-plus tenure on Brookside Road, Springfied, Pa. 19064, according to an employee of the branch.

The new occupant of the building long for sale will reportedly be a credit union.

The new address for the Springfield Post Office, which has long been a non-delivery facility,  is in Olde Sproul Village on Baltimore Pike in what had been the Baja Fresh Mexican restaurant.

  1. Sorry to see the post office go. I’ve been their patron for over 25 years, and while at times the service has been a bit quirky, I have appreciated the more “mom and pop” feel to the place. When I first moved to Springfield, the Postmistress (still there) apologized to ME when my dog bit the mailman!! Anna and other staffers have always greeted me with a big hello, and been very helpful, even creative with finding ways to keep costs down. That’s pretty rare in a bureaucracy. So long, Brookside post office, and Hello, ridiculous traffic at the Olde Sproul Village.

  2. I will miss it too. It was so handy. Things change however, when I first went there some 50 years ago, there was no Internet–there weren’t even computers.
What would Ben Franklin say about this? I understand they are closing the post office in Philly that he opened.
