Monkfish In Paprika Sauce — Tonight’s Meal

Tonight’s meal by Chef Bill Sr. began with an antipasto of crudites including stuff olives from the Glen Mills Fresh Market olive bar and celery stuffed with whitefish salad. The main course was monkfish baked in a paprika sauce with sides of cottage cheese and egg noodles, and cole slaw.

The monkfish, whitefish salad and cole slaw came from Hill’s Seafood in Media.

The wine was a Nederburg chenin blanc from South Africa.

Delicious!

Corbett To Cave On Medicaid?

It has been confirmed that Gov. Corbett has requested a meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and the obvious  subject is the acceptance of federal money that would make an estimated 600,000 low-wage Pennsylvanians eligible for Medicaid, the government health program for “poor” people

Corbett had initially rejected the money after it was pointed out to him that expanding the pond of Medicaid recipients without expanding the health care providers isn’t really going to help anyone. In fact, it will make health care harder to obtain for the people now getting it, along with those getting Medicare as there is  overlap in the doctors participating in both services.

Having a card saying you have a right to health care is not the same as having health care, after all.

Still the propaganda mills run by those who acquire wealth and power through managing government services grind on and the fears are the Corbett — not known for having a strong backbone — will cave.

The good news, one supposes, is that he hasn’t yet.

It should be obvious, by the way, that the fewer private options available the more wealth and power the government managers have. These people really don’t care about you.

Chef Bill Jambalaya Tonight’s Meal

Obama Cavalry Attacking Woodward

Obama Cavalry Attacking Woodward — Bob Woodward, whose liberal bona fides are such that Hollywood once cast Robert Redford as him, has written a series of articles pointing out that the sequester deal causing so much angst among the government is my god crowd was:

1. Actually President Obama’s idea

2. Never called for tax increases

3. And President Obama is the one who gets to choose what to cut such law enforcement, border security, defense etc.

Now Woodward has revealed that an Obama staffer has called him regarding the stories screaming and making Nixonian threats.

Well, we can’t have Woodward off the reservation now can we? Obama has called out his cavalry i.e. the D.C. media establishment to round him up and bring him back in.

Brietbart.com is keeping a running account of the effort.

School Tax Rebates Still Being Accepted

Applications for Pennsylvaniaā€™s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program are currently being accepted, reports State Rep. Jim Cox (R-129).

Eligible participants can receive a rebate of up to $650 based on their rent or property taxes paid in 2012. The program benefits income-eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities.

Renters may earn up to $15,000 annually and qualify for the program, while home owners may earn up to $35,000. Exclude 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits when calculating income.

Residents are reminded to provide all the necessary income, property tax or rental information required to process claims quickly and accurately. Applications are due by June 30, with rebates being mailed after July 1.

Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms are available here.

“While the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program helps some homeowners, I remain committed to the complete replacement of Pennsylvaniaā€™s archaic school property tax system,” Cox said.

He said that those interested in learningĀ  about the Property Tax Independence Act (House Bill 76), that he isĀ  sponsoring should visit his webite:Ā  http://www.repjimcox.com

The bill would completely replace the school property tax with other funding mechanisms.

Van Cliburn — A Passing

Harvey Lavan Cliburn, an oilman from Shreveport, La. and his wife, Rildia Bee, had a son on July 12, 1934, whom they named for the father.

The son would grow to become one of history’s greatest classical pianist. He died today at his home in Fort Worth, Tx.

He, of course, made his fame as Van Cliburn.
