The year 1744 might have been the biggest in music history. We still sing its songs. It was when Tommy Thumb’s Pretty Song Book was published. It included the first publications of Hickory Dickory Dock, Ladybird Ladybird, Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, and Sing a Song of Sixpence. It was also the year God Save The Queen was written and Charles Wesley published Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus.
