Robert Lincoln Edwin Booth — Robert was the only son of Abraham Lincoln to survive till adulthood and have children. He almost didn’t though. While on a train platform in Jersey City in late 1863 or early 1864, he was pushed by the crowd and likely would have fallen to his death but for a passerby who grabbed him at the last moment.  The passerby? He was Edwin Booth, the noted actor and brother of John Wilkes Booth.

  1. You don’t hear much about the good guy–just his brother, the scoundrel who killed one of our greatest presidents. We should celebrate an Edwin Booth day.

  2. Did not this only surviving son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln attempt to have his mother put away as mentally incompetent and then abscond with all her assets? I can only imagine Mary Todd’s Lincoln state of mind having already endured the deaths of two sons and now the death of her husband. I think she died while residing in the home of her sister.
