The Germans successfully used a three-masted sailing ship as a commerce raider during World War I. She was the SMS Seeadler. It was likely the last time a sailing ship was used in combat albeit the United States did use the schooner USS Irene Forsyte as a decoy ship during World War II although it never saw action.
