Those Crazy Japanese

Those Crazy Japanese — Issei Sagawa was a student in avant garde literature at the Sorbonne Academy in 1981 when he invited classmate Renee Hartevelt to dinner at his apartment.

Little did Miss Hartevelt know that she was going to be the meal. Sagawa shot her and proceeded to eat her over the next several days.

Sagawa’s deed was discovered when he tried to dispose of what he couldn’t finish in a lake.

Well, he was arrested, found insane and placed in an asylum. His wealthy father inveigled him to be transferred to a Japanese institution and then released into society. He served a total of 15 months.

Sagawa is now a minor celebrity in Japan where he gives lectures on cannibalism, writes restaurant reviews, and says that he would like to eat another girl.

Seriously.

  1. So you’re writing about things that happened 30 years ago now? And saying “those crazy japanese” as if one japanese person being a cannibal equates to them all being cannibalistic. What about the people in america who do the same? Japan is an amazing place and I’d love to go there! My favorite bands are there! They’re not crazy.

  2. The celebrity thing is happening now.

Imagine Jeffrey Dahmer giving lectures and writing restaurant reviews.

  3. Yes, but that doesn’t mean all japanese are crazy. You titled this “those crazy japanese.” They’re not all crazy. I have friends from there and I love their culture and I’m sure I know more about it than you. If you’re talking about one person, then talk about one person. Don’t start stereotyping the whole country.

  4. I could post the same thing about Americans. They’re NOT crazy. And Robert, you don’t think those websites are racist? Japan is weird? You guys writing off a whole nation is weird and disturbing. I doubt you’ve ever even met anyone from Japan! I was actually planning on traveling there this spring and going to see my favorite bands, which are japanese and studying their art.

You also know America steals so much from them, right? If they’re so horrible why do we steal so many movies from them? So much art? Theatre? We stole the program to make holograms (Tupac? Yeah, Japan was already doing that for years.) They’re years ahead of us.

You actually are racist. Never thought I’d be saying that.

  5. They’re not weird. They’re amazing. Do you post any good things on your site anymore? All you do is post hate shit. And as I’ve said, I have friends who are from Japan. Grew up there their whole lives. Do you know any of them in person, or are you just going off websites and youtube videos? I know them in person and by calling them weird, you’re insulting my friends and insulting me.

Do you honestly think America is so great? One of the fattest countries on earth, looked down on by other countries (BEFORE Obama came into office, because I know you’ll go there), all Asians who come over here are very disciplined, smart, and hard workers, they have a great cultural background, and they’ve been around a helluva lot longer than us.

I would point out that humans came to north america over a bridge that used to connect Alaska to Asia, and we’ve evolved since then, but we all have Asian roots as a result….but you believe all men are created from dirt and women are created from a bone.

  6. The Japanese are not a race. They are a nation and a culture. It is racist to call the Japanese a race.

    And they are weird

  7. The History Place – Genocide in the 20th Century

Rape of Nanking: 1937-1938 300,000 Deaths

In December of 1937, the Japanese Imperial Army marched into China’s capital city of Nanking and proceeded to murder 300,000 out of 600,000 civilians and soldiers in the city. The six weeks of carnage would become known as the Rape of Nanking and represented the single worst atrocity during the World War II era in either the European or Pacific theaters of war.
Christina please google “the Rape of Nanking”

  8. The American and Filipino forces fought from an untenable position until formally surrendering to the Japanese on April 9. The Japanese immediately began to march some 76,000 prisoners (12,000 Americans, the remainder Filipinos) northward into captivity along a route of death. When three American officers escaped a year later, the world learned of the unspeakable atrocities suffered along the 60-mile journey that became known as the Bataan Death March.

Japanese butchery, disease, exposure to the blazing sun, lack of food, and lack of water took the lives of approximately 5,200 Americans along the way. Many prisoners were bayoneted, shot, beheaded or just left to die on the side of the road. “A Japanese soldier took my canteen, gave the water to a horse, and threw the canteen away,” reported one escapee. “The stronger were not permitted to help the weaker. We then would hear shots behind us.” The Japanese forced the prisoners to sit for hours in the hot sun without water. “Many of us went crazy and several died.

Christina, now you should google the Bataan Death March.
The Japanese never apologized for any of their crimes and are still the most rated people in Asia.

  9. What if someone did create a website called americaisweird.com? They could post pictures from Burger King commercials, Honey Boo Boo, monster truck races, combine demolition derbies and Vermin Supreme. Would you say they were racist? Would you say they were writing off a whole nation?

Why are you accusing America of stealing? I’m sure that someone was paid for the Tupac hologram. The holographic method was invented by a Hungarian-British physicist in the 1940s. The first laser holograms were made in the 1960s in the USA and the Soviet Union. Do you think the Japanese are thieves?

In one paragraph, you are accusing me of writing off a whole nation. In the next paragraph you are accusing my whole nation of being thieves.

Are you racist against Americans? By your own logic, you would be.

I think it is nice that you are planning to travel to Japan and that you enjoy their art and music. I’m sure it’s a very tiny subset of the population that thinks it is okay to kill and eat young women. I’m sorry my cultural insensitivities led me to be critical of that.

  10. Actually Sega, Sony, and Crypton invented the program that is used. All in Japan. And when I say stealing, I mean that a lot of people are giving America credit, when they have no idea where it really came from.

For all the people saying Japan has killed a lot of people…….so has America. Or are you forgetting all the Native Americans we displaced and all the internment camps from WWII (as two examples)?

Remember Pearl Harbor? I do. I also Remember all of WWII. People don’t hate all of Germany, do they? And for the same reason – it wasn’t the whole country who plotted this. It was just a few people. And we just sunk down to their level by bombing them and killing even more innocent people in return.

If someone made a website called americaisweird, I wouldn’t care. There’s already peopleofwalmart. And we are weird. We promote shows like Honey boo boo, we make students pay out of pocket for college, and we put more money into our army than into education. Let’s not forget the obesity rate and the fact that we’re the only ones not on the metric system. And that we have cannibalism here too.

Japan isn’t the only country who has cannibals. You’re acting like it is. It happens in other countries too. And it’s not just their art and music I like. I like the people (I’ve said numerous times I have friends there that I actually know in person and have been to school with) and I love their culture.

Honestly, if I had the money, I’d take my cats and leave America. That’s why I like traveling. So I can leave the country. Unfortunatly, I don’t have the money and won’t for a long time (hopefully one day I will, even if it’s at retirement.) Right now it’s going to college and I plan on getting my PhD, so I’m gonna be in school for a long time.

  11. You’ve put some thought in this comment which is good.

You still, however, are very ignorant of history.

And the budget too. We spend more on education than defense.

  12. Actually we do spend more on the military than education. Especially college. And no, I’m not ignorant of history. That would be you. I actually plan on teaching art HISTORY in college.

  13. So, a website called “japaniswierd” is racist, but a website called “americaisweird” would be okay?

You’re acting like a racist who thinks it’s okay to be a celebrity for killing and eating a women if you are Japanese.
