VE Day Is Not When Germany Surrendered

Today is the anniversary of VE Day but it is not the 72nd Anniversary of the unconditional surrender of Germany in World War II. That would have been yesterday as the surrender was signed 2:41 p.m., May 7.

Today is the 72 Anniversary of active operations by German forces which occurred 11:01 p.m., May 8.

Actually, one German army continued fighting in Prague, Czechoslovakia  until May 11.

  1. I really appreciate the correction included in this blog, re: VE Day is not when Germany surrendered.
What has to happen in the USA to end this trend of “loose facts”, disregard for what role history plays in our everyday life and news, and false narrative? I’m not sure of the number of Americans who fought in WW II, I know it was many, many men and women who were part of the Greatest Generation…..were none of them involved in this news broadcast that misrepresented when Germany surrendered and ended this war that shook the world? Thank God we still have Bill Lawrence Sr. who feels accuracy in telling history is an important detail. Otherwise the academics and journalists will be changing our history to meet their own needs. Whoops! They are already doing this. Disgraceful. Why as a nation don’t we care abut this?
