William Frawley is most famous for playing Fred Mertz in the classic TV show I Love Lucy. He, however, was the “it” singer of the 1910s — the Bruno Mars of the day you can say. Frawley made popular the megahits “My Melancholy Baby“, “Carolina in the Morning”, and “My Mammy”. Yes Anthony, it was Fred Mertz who in 1912 first made Mammy a hit, not Al Jolson.
