Clara Hirschfield is so famous you probably never heard of her. As a little girl she was called Tootsie. Her father, Leo, was a candy maker. Yes Miranda, the Tootsie Roll created in 1896 and the first penny candy to be individually wrapped is named for her.

In the early Aughts, Chicago brothers Charles and Samuel Dowst, along with Charles’ son Theodore, were entrepreneurs who established a line of die-cast toy cars, cashing in on the growing love affair with the automobile. They named their toy line after Theodore’s daughter, Catherine, whose nickname was “Toots”.
Their toy company?
Tootsietoy.
It seems Toots was a popular nickname back in the day. Don’t think I’d use it now though.
