Pa. To Cut Funds To Brandywine Battlefield

Pa. To Cut Funds To Brandywine Battlefield — Pennsylvania will no longer fund Brandywine Battlefield, a 52-acre paradise of very historic open space in Chadds Ford. Operations are now the responsibility of the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates, which is an association of volunteers.

Again we pay more and get less. The Pennsylvania budget has increased from $35.8 billion in 1998-99 — when there was no issue about funding the Battlefield — to $61.3 billion in 2008-09.

Parks — and maintaining historical sites — are one of the few areas in which government generally does a better job than the private sector.

Springfield P.O. Will Move

It’s official, the Springfield Post Office that has graced Brookside Road in thePennsylvania Township for more than five decades is going to be moved to a yet-to-be identified location on Baltimore Pike. Also, the post office annex in the Springfield Mall will be closed.

Springfield has long been a non-delivery facility with mail addressed tothe 19064 Zip Code being trucked from the Media Annex on Route 452 inMiddletown Township.

The idea is to save money but do you really expect to see a cut in cost of postage — or your taxes? Not on this planet.

So, the bottom line is that there is going to be a decrease in service while we are charged the same if not more.

And the Democrats wonder why we object to the government takeover of health care that they are trying to foist on us.

By the way, the Post Office has a legal monopoly with regard to the delivery of most mail. A minor change in the law — which Congress has the power to do — would allow competition which would see a huge decrease in cost and a great increase in efficiency.

Sort of what happened when UPS and FedEX began competing with the delivery of packages and urgent letters.

Sestak And His Running Dog Lackeys

The Delaware County Daily Time’s parent company was just reorganized out of bankruptcy, a state in which the Philadelphia Inquirer owners remain.

And there is a reason for their troubles and why both newspaper companies will eventually fail. Neither practices journalism.

The main headline in today’s Inky remarked on number of health care plan supporters attending the “town hall” held by Congressman Joe Sestak (D-Pa.7). I didn’t see a word in the story pointing out that where the “town hall” was held — Broad Street Ministry, 315 S. Broad St., Philadelphia —  is a very Democratic and union friendly area well outside his suburban district,  nor did it remark on what the admission policy was. The Daily Times also declined to address those salient and obvious points.

If those who ran newspapers had the epiphany that most people don’t want to pay for propaganda the products might have a chance. If such an experience hasn’t happened despite the experience of disappeared profit and bankruptcy court, I don’t expect it to.

Sestak To Have Town Hall Outside Of District

Congressman Joe Sestak (D-Pa7) is having a town hall, 6:30 p.m., today,  at Broad Street Ministries, 315 S. Broad St., Philadelphia regarding President Obama’s proposed national mandated-medical rationing plan.

You expect a lot of constituents Joe?

Having it outside the district is really slick but why not really throw the protesters a curve? Reschedule it for 1 a.m., Saturday at 18th & Diamond.

Another Protestor Threatened

Another Protestor Threatened — Mike Sola lodged a protest against President Obama’s proposed health care plan at an Aug. 6 town hall sponsored by Congressman John Dingell, D-Mich. He had brought his wheelchair-bound 36-year-old son who has cerebral palsy to the meeting and demanded a direct answer as to what kind of treatment his son could expect.

When an answer was not forthcoming, things became heated and Sola and his son were escorted out.

Well, Sola now says “thugs” have located his home and delivered a threat which he has reported to police.

Sola told Fox News, Aug. 10, that “I will use every means available to me, lethal force if necessary, to protect [my son] and my wife. My wife is terrified,”

It Looks Like Pat Meehan 2010

It looks like Pat Meehan will be the GOP nominee in 2010 for the seat being vacated by Congressman Joe “I Believe The World’s Burning To The Ground” Sestak (D-Pa.7).

Craig Williams, the ’08 nominee, has endorsed Meehan and said he will work hard for him. Meehan was the federal prosecutor responsible for Philadelphia and its eight surrounding counties from Sept. 17, 2001 until July 15, 2008 when he left for the law firm of Conrad O’Brien Gellman & Rohn.

The was speculation he was going to try for governor.

Meehan was nationally recognized for his prosecutions involving corruption during the Mayor John Street administration in Philadelphia.

Before becoming a U.S. District Attorney,  Meehan, 53, of Drexel Hill, was the Delaware County District Attorney with his highest profile cases the prosecutions of John DuPont for the murder of Olympic wrestler David Schultz in Newtown Square and Arthur Bomar for the murder of Aimee Willard in Marple. Both murders occurred in 1996.

Meehan was a star hockey player at Bowdoin College and was a NHL official for two years.

Frankly, I would have preferred Williams but Meehan is fine.

Frankly, considering the mess the Democrats are making of things, I think I would vote for Triumph the Insult Dog over anyone who would give Nancy Pelosi two more years as Speaker of the House.

ObamaCare: Check The Premise

Obama seems to think that by putting ink on paper and giving a command all will have health care, and this perfectly illustrates that Obama, his advisers and pretty much everyone in the Democratic Party are clueless as to what health care is and how we get it.

Health care does not come from shuffling papers and empowering bureaucrats. It comes from people with the right aptitude who have acquired knowledge and developed skills — a taxing and time consuming process — to cure the ills of the body. They are doctors and nurses and paramedics and pharmacists and chemists in drug companies. They are engineers who improve wheelchairs, and walkers and diagnostic machines. They are hands-on people who are the farthest thing one can get from a 10-4 suit who takes two-hours for lunch.

To better our health care system the thing to do would be to increase the number of the doctors/nurses/druggists etc. and increase their efficiency so they could serve more people. Obama’s plan does not do this, however.  It will actually likely decrease the number of competent professionals, who will then be motivated to serve the bare minimum they could get away with.

You think maybe this would be pointed out in the various reporting on the matter. Why isn’t it? It not so much a conspiracy but an incompetency. The dumbest have risen to the top of the pyramid at most old media outlets.

And so idiocracy has arrived.

Obama Supporters Assault Protesters

Obama Supporters Assault Protesters — Following President Obama’s directive to “get in their faces” and “punch back twice as hard,” his supporters attacked protesters yesterday at a town hall meeting held by St. Louis Democrat Rep. Russ Carnahan.

Kenneth Gladney, 38, an African-American who had been handing out flags with the words “Don’t Tread On Me”,  was taking to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center where he wastreated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face.

Six persons were arrested at the event, most if not all, of whom appeared to be Obama supporters.

Opponents of Obama’s plan were also reported roughed up at an event in Tampa.

Tough Love For Philly

The Senate Republicans led by Majority Leader and Delaware County’s own Dominic Pileggi (R-9) is going slow on giving Philadelphia permission to raise its sales tax from 7 percent to 8 percent.

Pileggi says solving the state budget mess comes first.

Well, kudos for Pileggi. Showing the city some tough love and forcing them to cut some fat might keep it from going the way of Detroit.

The Philadelphia Inquirer, btw, is upset with Pileggi action. If the Inky is sincere about helping  Philly’s financial situation they would move their operations back to the city from Montgomery County.

Dems Cut Check For Themselves As State Workers Twisted In The Wind

Dems Cut Check For Themselves As State Workers Twisted In The Wind — Gov. Ed “X” Rendell caved yesterday signing a partial budget allowing 77,000 state workers to get paid, an experience they have not had since July 1.

Also, money was made available for welfare checks.

Checks were cut Tuesday, however, for the Democratic members of the State House using a reserve fund the State Legislature keeps just for budget impasses.

The House and Senate Republicans declined to issue checks until the rest of the state workers were paid, as did the Senate Democrats.
