Pennsylvania Leadership Conference King of Prussia Meeting — This year’s Pennsylvania Leadership Conference October Briefing is Friday, Oct. 26, in King of Prussia, and will feature political commentator Kathy Barnette, Jonathan Williams from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) co-author of the Rich States/Poor States report, and Republican Lieutenant Gubernatorial candidate Jeff Bartos.

Americans for Prosperity-PA will present a session on effective activism.

The PLC October Briefing is being held for the first time ever outside of Harrisburg and will take place at the Crowne Plaza in King of Prussia. WFYL-AM is co-sponsoring the gathering of conservative activists which will include a morning briefing, noon luncheon, and afternoon seminar.

The afternoon seminar presented by Conversations on the Culture is entitled Issues that Women Care About and will include a keynote speech and panel presentation.

Announcement of the 2019 Pennsylvania Leadership Conferencefeatured speaker will be made during the briefing. The 30thanniversary conference will be held April 5-6, 2019 at the Radisson Penn Harris Convention Center in Camp Hill.

The Pennsylvania Leadership Conference is the premiere gathering of public policy conservatives each year in the Keystone State. It is the largest and longest-running of the state-based conservative conferences regularly attracting a long list of conservative elected officials, scholars, journalists and activists for two days of speeches, panel presentations, workshops and networking.

Medicare Counselor To Visit Springfield — An APPRAISE counselor for Medicare matters will be available at the district office of State Rep. Alex Charlton (R-165) on Tuesday, July 17, Aug. 14, Sept. 11 and Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Summer Networking at Joseph’s People

Joseph’s People Central Delaware County (JPCD) will host a free session, July 17, on “Networking Through the Summer.” The workshop will be held from 7-8:30 p.m., in the Parish Hall of St. Laurence Church. The church is located at 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, and the entrance to Parish Hall is from the rear church driveway off of St. Laurence Road. All are welcome, regardless of religious affiliation.

Joseph Masek, former President of Masek HR Consulting, will teach how to keep up with your job search, with minimal time investment, while still enjoying summer. He will demonstrate how job seekers can become fully prepared to capitalize on the second busiest hiring month: September. Masek worked over 20 years at Lockheed Martin Corporation in Human Resources. He earned his M.S in Human Resources Management from Widener University. Currently, he volunteers at Nemours A.I. DuPont Hospital within the HR Operations department.

As a job seeker during the summer months, it is easy to slow down your search and lose momentum gained during the spring hiring season. It is often difficult to schedule interviews with your vacation plans, and those of the hiring manager. There are often distractions and seasonal chores to take care of around the house. Falling into a slower pace, however, may mean competition will beat you by getting your dream job.  

If you need to land employment before September, hiring does happen during summer. Mr. Masek will give you clues how you can find job leads where few others are looking.

Walk For Wounded Event Moved To Springton Lake School — Cathy Craddock tells us that the 5K run and walk parts  have been cancelled due to weather for tomorrow’s (May 19) 11th Annual Walk for the Wounded but the rest of event including speakers, military personnel, prizes and the Phillies Phanatic will be moved to Springton Lake Middle School, 1900 N. Providence Road, Media, Pa. 19063.

It starts at 11 a.m. The school is across Providence Road from Rose Tree Park where the event was originally scheduled to occur.

Alex Charlton Hosts Paper Shredding Event — State Rep. Alex Charlton (R-165) will be hosting a free paper-shredding event, 8 a.m. – to noon, tomorrow, May 19, at his district office, 905 W. Sproul Road, Suite 203, Springfield, Pa. 19064 for all  who wish  to dispose of sensitive documents.

“Identity theft is an insidious crime that impacts more than 15 million individuals in the United States alone at a cost of more than $16 billion,” he said. “It’s critical that we completely destroy personal records and papers when discarding them.”

This is a good thing. Doesn’t mean he has my vote Nov. 6, but this is a good thing.

For what it’s worth, we have heard that Springfield GOP leaders are reaching out to the Regina Scheerer faction that opposed Charlton on Tuesday. That is a better thing.

Ken Sher Gives Interviewing Tips

Joseph’s People Central Delco (JPCD) welcomes Ken Sher, who will present “Handling Difficult Interview Challenges.” The program is 7-8:30 p.m., June 5, at Media Presbyterian Church’s Hassler Chapel, 30 E. Baltimore Ave., Media PA 19063. The chapel can be accessed from the Baltimore Avenue side, to the left of the main door, or around back on East Franklin Street, enter the back door and go up the stairs. All are welcome without regard to religious affiliation.  

This interactive session will assist job seekers to answer questions such as  “Aren’t you overqualified for this job?” and “What’s your current salary?” Also, come prepared to discuss interview questions that you find particularly challenging.

Mr. Sher, who has been a Career Management and Executive Business Coach for nearly 25-years, will teach participants effective ways to handle phone interviews, tips for Skype interviews, how to answer the most difficult interview questions and what to not say in an interview.

Ken has led three different Learning & Development teams including a global organization and the J & J Sales Recruiting department, where he refined his skills regarding how to identify, recruit and retain top talent. He brings a practical and humanistic approach to training that ultimately leads to increased productivity, career fulfillment and improved employee engagement.

Ken has led sales teams ranging in size from 10 to 70 employees, and sales training and leadership development teams of up to 25 associates. He has helped many of them attain advanced positions within their organizations and beyond. He is a member of the Five O’clock Club, the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network (LTEN) and the Association for Talent Development (ATD) and a member of the National Speaker’s Association Academy.

Haverford Guild Art Show June 9 — The Haverford Guild of Craftsmen will be holding a Fine Art and Craft Show at the Agnes Irwin School at Ithan Avenue and Conestoga Road in Rosemont, PA 19010. The show will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10.

The Summer Fine Art and Craft Show will showcase the work of over 40 juried artists in media that includes jewelry, leather, ceramics, glass, fiber, photography, painting, metal sculpture, wood, illustration, and mixed media.

Joseph’s People Central Delaware County (JPCD) welcomes Ernie Russom, who will present a strategy for communicating how your achievements apply to the needs of the hiring company. The session, “Target Resumes: The Most Effective Way to Land Your Next Job,” will be held 7-8:30 p.m., May 15, in Parish Hall of St. Laurence Church. Mr. Russom is executive director of the search and staffing firm, The Westview Associates.
