DeMint Shrugs

Jim DeMint of South Carolina, a tea party favorite and Republican, has announced that he will leave the Senate in January, which is two years before his term expires.

When you see a train wreck coming you get off the train, it seems.
Or maybe he feels that S.C. is a better place to prep than D.C.

His replacement will be picked by Gov. Nikki Haley, a fellow Republican, and will have to stand for election in 2014.

Happy Birthday, Judy McGrane

Internet Sorta Confirmation Of The Day — Latham Ford

A Ford Dealer’s Report – From Tom Selkis’ (Latham Ford) Facebook has been flying around the internet since at least October.
We called the dealership in Latham, N.Y. Yes, Mr. Selkis is the owner. Yes, the receptionist knew about the piece. She laughed about it, quickly said she she would neither confirm nor deny it, and then said she had to take another call.
Hat tip Judy McGrane. Here it is:
“I’ll try to make this as short and to the point as I can.
One of my salesmen here had a woman in his office yesterday wanting to  lease a brand new Focus.
As he was reviewing her credit application with her he noticed she was  on social security disability.
He said to her you don’t look like you’re disabled and unable to work.
She said well I’m really not. I could work if I wanted to, but I make  more now than I did when I was working and got hurt (non-disabling  injury).
She said the gov’t sends her $1500.00 a month in 1 check. And she gets  $700.00 a month on an EBT card (food stamps), and $800.00 a month for  rent.
Oh yeah, and 250 minutes free on her phone.
That is just south of $3500.00 a month.
When she was working, she was taking home about $330.00 per week.
Do the math and then ask yourself why the hell should she go back to  work.
If you multiply that by millions of people, you start to realize the  scope of the problem we face as a country.
Once the socialists have 51% of the population in that same scenario,  we are finished.
The question is when do we cross that threshold if we haven’t already,  and there are not enough people working to pay enough taxes to support  the non-working people? Riots?? Be prepared to protect your homes.
She didn’t lease the Focus here because the dealer down the road beat  our deal by $10.00/month.
Glad to know she is so frugal with her hard earned money.”

The Future Is Idiocracy

Costco announced, Nov. 28,  that it would pay a special $7 dividend that month, meaning it’s shareholders get an extra $3 billion this Christmas season.

This special extra money didn’t come from earnings but from taking out a loan. Yes, they borrowed the money for this corporate gift giving.
Why would they do that? Well, the current dividend tax is 15 percent, but next year it jumps to 43.4 percent. The expiration of Bush-era tax cuts adds 26.4 points with the rest coming from the ObamaCare surcharge.
But here is the real interesting question — why isn’t Costco willing to take the hit? Why are they incurring $3 billion in debt to avoid it? Costco co-founder and director Jim Sinegal supports the deal, yet he made a prime-time speech at the Democrat Convention praising Obama and his policies.
Is he stupid? Of course not. He’s getting tens of millions of dollars from a special deal and is going to spend the rest of his natural days not only as a fat-cat 1 percenter but as political insider with all the perks it entails.
It’s the people who believed him who are stupid.
Which gets us to  a related matter. Hollywood 1-percenter Ashley Judd is seriously considering a 2014 run for the Kentucky Senate seat now held by Republican Mitch McConnell. I think she has a chance.
Which gets us to our movie tip of the day: Mike Judge’s classic Idiocracy from 2006. It’s almost like it’s a prophecy.
For the record, we have joined the recently opened the Costco in Concordville. It’s a fun place with good prices and nice people. Don’t take your anger at the 1-percenter greed of the corrupt fat-pig Democrat owners out on the people who work there, or on yourselves.
