Tax Rebate Deadline Looms

The deadline to apply for the 2011 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is Dec. 31, reports State Rep. Jim Cox (R-129).

If you’ve already applied and/or received your rebate check for 2011, please note that applications for the 2012 program will not be accepted until next year, probably in mid-February.

Eligible participants can receive a rebate of up to $650 based on their rent or property taxes paid in 2011. The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities.

Eligibility income limits for homeowners are set at the following levels, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits:

$0 to $8,000, maximum $650 rebate (homeowners and renters).

$8,001 to $15,000, maximum $500 rebate (homeowners and renters).

$15,001 to $18,000, maximum $300 rebate (homeowners only).

$18,001 to $35,000, maximum $250 rebate (homeowners only).

Disconcerting Datum Of The Day

Libyan rebels last year captured a possible 15,000 man-portable air defense missiles from Muammar Gaddafi’s arsenal.

The Obama administration can’t figure out what happened to them.
They apparently had tasked the late Ambassador Chris Stevens to get a handle on things.
It sure is a shame that guy in California made that nasty Mohammed youtube thing.

Education Tidbits

Global spending on education is $3.9 trillion, a third of which is done by the United States.

The USA ranks just 25th out of the 34 OECD nations in math; 17th in science and 14th in reading.

McCain Will Beat Mitt After All

As the vote counting winds down it appears Mitt Romney will end with about 57.8 million votes compared the 59.9 million John McCain received in 2008.

The attempts by Romney’s opponents to portray him as an uncaring corporate raider appear to have worked.
This was not all Obama’s doing if you remember the GOP primary, but Romney’s hands are not clean in this either considering what he did to his opponents.
Republicans are going to have to learn not to eat their own.

Media, Pa. To Host Largest Veterans Day Parade

As you are reading this in English, remember to thank a vet today as today is the formal observation of Veterans Day since Nov. 11 fell on a Sunday.

Teri Adams of the Independence Hall Tea Party notes that 53rd Annual Media, Pa. Veterans Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. in the Borough and will feature Media Mayor and Vietnam vet Bob McMahon, Congressman Pat Meehan and radio host Dom Giordano.
It is the largest Veterans Day parade in the state, Ms. Adams notes.

Answer to yesterday’s puzzle: The lessons this life has planted in my heart pertain more to caring than crops, more to Golden Rule than gold, more to the proper choice than to the popular choice.
