Delco Offers Vets Free ID Cards

Delaware County, Pa. began offering veterans, Nov. 28, free photo identification which will give them discounts at participating businesses and to allow them to register their DD-214 at the Office of the Recorder of Deeds.

Registering the DD-214 or equivalent military discharge document provides a safe back up for these important documents.
The discounts are at the discretion of the business. Businesses offering discounts will get a certificate of participation and recognition on the County’s  Veterans Affairs website.
This is just one way that we can show our appreciation to veterans of all ages who bravely served our country in all branches of the military,” said County Council Vice Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr., a U.S. Air Force veteran.
For information about the Delaware County Veterans ID Program, or any other veteran’s services, contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 610-891-4645 or visit www.co.delaware.pa.us.

Book Review — Ask Deborah

Ask Deborah is a great little book that can be read in less than an hour written by Mary Hickey, a former Delaware County journalist who moved out to Ohio.

It’s a series of short answers a advice columnist writing circa 33 AD would answer questions from Biblical figures.
It’s gentle and uplifting and we whole-heartedly recommend it. It would make an excellent Christmas present.
She also includes a well-thought essay on writing religious humor and how to avoid giving offense.

Watchstander Is Online

The 14-mile stretch of the Delaware River bordering Delaware County, Pa. is now covered by Boeing Watchstander Integrated Security Solutions, which provides 24-hour surveillance, detection, identification and recognition at key sites.

Watchstander cameras show live activity including boat traffic along the Delaware with views of the refineries, shipping terminals, PPL Park, Commodore Barry Bridge and Harrah’s Casino and Racetrack.
Boeing got the contract to install it in July 2011. The announcement that it was online was made Oct. 16.

“Delaware County is home to refineries, two-thirds of Philadelphia International Airport is in the County, plus the Delaware River runs parallel to an interstate highway and major railroad lines, which demands that we provide the most advanced security available for this region,” said District Attorney Jack Whelan.

How To Shop For Christmas This Year

Submitted by Marie Martinelli
As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans
with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods, merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different.  This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands.
Yes there is! It’s time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?
Everyone yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificate from your locally owned American hair salon or barber?   Gym membership?
It’s appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement. Who wouldn’t appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.
Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the big bucks on a Chinese made flat-screen?
Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.
There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants offering gift certificates.
Remember, folks this isn’t about Big National chains  this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.
How many people couldn’t use an oil change, done at a Independent shop run by the American working guy?
Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.
My computer could use a tune-up, and I know   I can find some guy who is trying to keep his repair business going.
OK, you were looking for something more personal. You can find Local crafts people at craft fairs this time of year. Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip.
And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theater. Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.
Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house?
When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a tip.
You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams.
And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits
come back to us in ways we couldn’t imagine.
THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.  This is also one way of putting Christ back in Christmas.
This is a revolution of caring about each other
and isn’t that what Christmas is about?

Obama Cuts Pell Grants

Obama has cut Pell grants.

Betcha didn’t know that being as how he was making an issue of how he wouldn’t do such a thing during the campaign and how college kids had to vote for him to stop the evil Republicans and save their education.
And of course this was reported at face value by the propagandist who many still believe are the watchdogs of government.
Well, the Dallas County (Texas) Community College District has just sent an email to students declaring:  On December 23, 2011, President Obama signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012 (Public Law 112-74). This new federal law states that the amount of Federal Pell Grant funds a student may receive over his or her LIFETIME will be reduced to the duration of a student’s eligibility from 18 semesters (or its equivalent) to 12 semesters (or its equivalent). This new law applies to ALL Federal Pell Grant eligible students effective with the 2012-2013 award year beginning July 1, 2012. (DCL-GEN-12-01)

It is now being circulated throughout the nation via the new independent media outlets.
Did Obama really sign such a law? Is this just a Texas thing?
Obama voters, you were lied to, not that our telling you will convince you otherwise.

Anti-Dictatorship Amendment Passes Senate

The Senate, last night, behind a coalition of Tea Party Republicans and liberal Democrats overwhelmingly passed Amendment 3018 to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act.

The amendment clarifies that citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States may not be detained without trial or charges.
The vote was 67-29. Of the 29 nays only four were Democrats.
Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomey was among them. Bob Casey Jr. supported the bill.
And this is why old school Republicans seem out of step.
