Tea Party Movement Alive In Philly — Teri and Don Adams of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association (IHTPA) had another Independence Day triumph before a maximum occupancy crowd of at least 300 at the Independence Visitors Center Ballroom across Market Street from Independence Hall.

The group has held Fourth of July events at Independence Mall featuring nationally known speakers for four straight years. It was moved inside this time due to forecasts of near 100 degree heat and thunderstorms.
This year’s keynoter was the oft-vilified, always underestimated and near heroic Pamela Geller of the Freedom Defense Initiative.
Ms. Geller, a human rights activist, noted that while she is accused of being anti-Muslim, had no problem with Muslims.  She said, however, she had a problem with Sharia Law and its demeaning treatment of women and religious minorities. She said she welcomed Muslims coming to America to escape the oppressive law.
Ms. Geller said that the struggle facing this generation is an old one between those who believe in the autonomy of the individual and those who believe in the supremacy of the state. This is why the left usually finds itself on the same side as Islam,  she explained, a matter that sometimes confuses the right.
She said that the fight against Sharia is no different than the fight against communism or Nazis, a name that she pointedly noted stood for National Socialism.
Ms. Geller said the Sharia supporters are making surprising inroads into our nation and culture. Islamic leaders shamelessly defend female genital mutilation here, she said. She stressed the importance of voting out President Obama this November, under whose watch moderate Islamic nations have fallen to Sharia throughout the Mideast and who did not lift a finger to help courageous pro-liberty supporters in Iran.
She said Obama has been a strong supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, support which was instrumental in their takeover of Egypt.
Ms. Geller said that the establishment media is a tool of the left and is effective in marginalizing conservative’s best spokespeople specifically citing Sarah Palin. She said too often the conservatives abandon them when this happens and that conservatives must learn to stick with those who have been knocked down.
Emcee duties were handled flawlessly by Ms. Adams and the flow was kept moving smoothly by presenters WHPT talk show host Dom Giordano and WDEL talks show host Rick Jensen. Jensen pointed out that 40 percent of self-proclaimed conservatives did not vote in 2008, and that the nation couldn’t afford them sitting out again.
Sher Valenzuela, who is Delaware’s Businesswoman of the year and is the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of that state, described the tragedy to come if Obamacare is not repealed. She said that her son was diagnosed with autism and was told he would never be able to read or write. She and her husband began a second job to raise the money so he could be treated by a specialist. The boy is now a freshman at the University of Delaware. She was emphatic that that could not have happened if the new law was in existence at the time.
Brandon Posner, the chairman of the Bucks County Teenage Republicans and the grandson of refugees from Castro’s Cuba, described the importance of freedom and the American ideal. The poise shown by someone who had just ended his sophomore year at CB East High School was remarkable.
The 2012 Patriot of the Year award was bestowed on Ryan Manion Borke of the Travis Manion Foundation. A prior commitment kept Borke from attending. The award was presented by Giordano on behalf of the late Joey Vento who was last year’s winner.
The presentation of awards by prior winners has become an event tradition.
The 2012 Betsy Ross Activist of the Year Delaware Award was presented by Kristen Sherman of Founders Values to John Radell of Faith and Freedom of Delaware.
The 2012 Besty Ross Activist of the Year New Jersey Award was presented by Bill Miller of Project Shining City to Cort Rosholt of the IHTPA.

There were two Betsy Ross awards given to Pennsylvanians. Carol Klein of numerous groups presented one to Lin DeCesare of the IHTPA and Saturday Morning in America. The other was presented by Phil Schieber of the IHTPA to Lisa Esler of the Delaware County Patriots, who is also a member of the Penn Delco School Board. Ms. Esler also played an instrumental role in Rogers Howard’s primary challenge to Dominic Pileggi in 9th District State Senate race.

The George Washington Leadership Award was presented by Carol Klein, Teri Adams, Sharon Cherubin to Rich Davis of American Sheepdogs whose successful efforts to lead a counter protest against anti-military demonstrators in West Chester that greatly helped the morale of returning veterans and their families.
Also speaking at times were Ms. Adams and Rick Eckert of the IHTPA. The invocation was given by Rev. Jesse W. Woods Jr., associate minister of the 2nd Baptist Church of Germantown. Music was provided by the 286 Band
The formalities ended with a panel discussion about how to defeat Obamacare presented by Don Adams; moderated by Gary R’nel of WPHT; and featuring Dr. Ed Turzanski of the Foreign Policy Research Institute; Arvin Cabali, M.D., of Docs for Patient Care, Pennsylvania; attorney Matt Rooney of SaveNewJerse.com; Mark A. Young, M.D. of Physicians for Palin; Sgt. Robert Mansfield (ret), Iraq  War veteran and the Republican congressional candidate for Pennsylvania’s 2nd District; and Rick Jensen.
An expected counter protest by Occupy Wall Street fizzled in the sizzle. Some signs were held up during the city’s Fourth of July Parade down Market Street preceding the event. A handful of unwashed types with duffle bags were seen lounging on the lawn of the Mall, although they denied being with OWS when asked and expressed concern that the asker was with the police.

This fellow said he was not a member of Occupy Wall Street but said he came down to join their protest. He found himself trapped on the south side of Market Street during the parade, while most of the other sign holders were on the north side. His signs, which were made from pizza boxes, say “End The NWO New World Order” and God’s Voice Not Man’s Voice”.

Catholic churches throughout the nation, today, held special Mass in which prayers for religious freedom and freedom of conscience were made.

Without the understanding and acceptance that there is a Creator who endows us with certain  unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness there is not much point to the United States.

Anyway for those of you who are recent graduates of public schools here is the reason why we are having a party today:

IN CONGRESS, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only. 
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. 
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands. 
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most hu
mble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. Biggest Spender In History

Peter Ferrara, writing in the June 16 Forbes, has declared President Obama to be the biggest spender in history. He points out that federal spending has increased from $2.983 trillion in 2008 to $3.796 trillion in 2012, which he calls the “highest government spending in world history”.

The column was in response to an unfounded but widely distributed claim by Internet commentator Rex Nutting that federal spending had slowed under Obama. The claim was eventually echoed by the President, himself.
Nutting explained his nuttiness by claiming “that the first year of every presidential term starts with a budget approved by the previous administration and Congress.”
Ferrara explains, however, that a president proposes a budget but it’s Congress that approves it and that Congress can approve one much different than what the president presents.
Ferrara noted that the budget presented by President Bush for Fiscal Year 2009 called for a 3 percent spending increase. The budget approved by the Democrat-controlled Congress and implemented by President Obama hiked spending 17.9 percent.
He noted that the Democrats only passed three of FY 2009’s 12 appropriations bills while Bush was in office waiting for Obama to take charge before doing the rest. 

Big Win For School Choice In Pa.

Gov. Tom Corbett signed Saturday, June 30, a bill that creates a new school choice program and expands Pennsylvania’s popular existing one.
The enabling language was found in HB 761, the Omnibus Tax Reform Code and increases funding by $25 million to $100 million for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) while adding $50 million for the new Education Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program (EISC).
“This bill is a landmark victory for parental choice in Pennsylvania,” said Otto V. Banks, executive director of the REACH Alliance & Foundation.  
Both programs use corporate tax credits for funding.
The EISC  will fund scholarships for children from low and middle income families who reside in low-achieving school areas. A low-achieving school is considered a public school that ranked in the lowest 15 percent of its designation as an elementary school or a secondary school based on combined mathematics and reading scores from the annual assessment administered in the previous school year and for which the Department of Education has posted results on its website.
The passage marks the culmination of a two-year effort led by Sen. Jeffrey Piccola (R-15) and Sen. Anthony Williams (D-8) whose SB 1 this session provided the parental choice framework of statewide EITC expansion coupled with targeted funding for children in low achieving schools, REACH said.  SB 1 passed the Senate 27-22 last fall, marking the first voucher legislation clearing a chamber in 20 years.
Rep. Tom Quigley introduced HB 1330, which would have increased EITC funding to $100 million in the 2011-12 school year, increasing to $200 million in 2012-13. HB 1330 passed the House by a 190-7 vote.
 This month, Rep. Jim Christiana introduced HBl 2468, the bill that provided much of the legislative language included in the passage of this school choice victory.
“This victory would not have been possible without the leadership of Governor Tom Corbett, Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, Speaker of the House Sam Smith, Representatives Mike Turzai, Senator Dominic Pileggi, House and Senate leaders, Senator Jeffrey Piccola, Senator Anthony Williams and Representative Jim Christiana,” said Banks.   
  

Extreme Weather Forecasts Moves Independence Day Tea Party Indoors

This year’s Independence Day Tea Party will be moved inside to the Independence Visitors Center Ballroom, 6th and Market streets, due to forecasts of extreme heat and thunderstorms, according to Teri Adams of the Independence Hall Tea Party which is sponsoring the event.
Reservations and a $10 fee — $5 for children 12 and under– is now being requested as space is now limited. The fee covers the event which is 1-3 p.m. and the after party which ends at 4:30 p.m. There will be refreshments. For reservation information contact teriaa222@yahoo.com

Pa. Has A Budget

Gov. Tom Corbett signed the state budget at 11:30 p.m., June 30 just a half hour before the deadline expired.  

The budget calls for $27.656 billion in General Fund spending over the next fiscal year which is an increase of  $395 million according to the State House Republican Caucus.
The budget enacted June 30, 2011, however, called for $27.150 billion in General Fund spending according to the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget which would make the increase $506 million.
Also, the General Fund accounts for less than half the spending by the state. Commonwealth Foundation noted that its total operating budget in FY 2011-2012 was $63.4 billion taking into account $4.3 billion in special funds, $22.1 billion in federal funds and $9.8 billion in other funds.
Did you know that the state gasoline tax and motor vehicle registration fees do not go into the General Fund? No, they are dumped into the Motor License Fund which is one of the special funds. Money gained by the Pennsylvania Lottery also has a fund of its own and is not included with the General Fund. Here is a primer.
The House Republicans note that in this year’s budget “all 500 school districts will be funded at the same level or greater than 2011-12.“

Will Email Go The Way Of The Cassette Tape?

Businesses are looking to abandon email according to MacWorld.Com.

The reason is the time wasted in deleting the irrelevant communiques much less actually reading them.
“People who read email changed screeds twice as often and maintained heart rates in a steady ‘high alert’ state,” according to a study this year by U.C. Irvine and the U.S. Army. Those removed from removed from email for five days experienced more natural, variable heart rates.”
Replacement technology ranges from subscription services like Socialtext that has a $5,000 per starting price; to things that start free like Dropbox, which, by the way also makes a great off-site back up system; to things that are free such as company blogs and wikis.

Openings Available At Roving Nature Camp

Friends of the Grange Inc. is again partnering with The Roving Nature Center Inc. to present specialized nature camps during the weeks of July 16 and July 30 at the Historic Grange Estate,  143 Myrtle Ave., Havertown, Pa. 19083

The Roving Nature Center is a private organization engaged in environmental education to stimulate awareness and understanding for children ages 4 through 10.

The fee for the five-day session is $85 for township residents, $95 for non-residents.

Sessions with spaces available are: 

Week 1 — Junior Natural Forces Discovery Team, 1-3:30 p.m., July 16-July 20, for ages 6-10.

Week 2 — Catey the Caterpillar’s Incredible Journey, 9:30 a.m.-noon, Monday, July 30 through Friday, Aug. 3, for ages 4-6; and Life of the Skies, 1-3:30 p.m., July 30-Aug. 3, for ages 6-10.
