It Would Be The Dems Who Would Close The Govt.

It Would Be The Dems Who Would Close The Govt. — With the fear, uncertainty and doubt being spread regarding the pending closure of many federal services this Friday, the point being missed that it will the Democrats who will be ones responsible for shutting down government this time.

All bills that relate to revenue must start in the House of Representatives as per the Constitution. The House is controlled by Republicans. They have submitted a bill, and have sent it to the Senate. The Senate is controlled by Democrats. They have said they won’t accept the House bill.

So, it seems, if one really wants to keep the government running, the simple thing to do would be for the Senate to accept the House bill.

Of course, the President would then have to sign it, and if should refuse he would be the one shutting down government.

He’s a Dem too, of course.

BTW, 58 percent of all Americans seem to be OK with shutting things down.

Good Guy Of The Week

Bill Rhoads of Rhoads Plumbing Heating Cooling  has been reported to have done an excellent — and reasonably priced — job of getting the plumbing up to code of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church , 100 S. Penn St. in Clifton Heights.

Well done, Bill. His business is at 333 S. Bishop Ave., Springfield, PA 19064. He can be reached at 610-623-3874.

Experience Drunk Driving The Safe Way

A way to safely experience drunk driving will be the highlight of  Healthy Communities Initiative’s High Impact Alcohol Awareness Program to be held at the Granite Run Mall, March 11.

A DUI simulator will let you feel what it’s like to take the wheel of a Ford Taurus after having one mojito over the line.

Actually, for it to be really interesting, it will have to be a couple of mojitos over the line, considering where the line is now drawn in this nanny-state era.

But check it out anyway. The event runs from 3 to 9 p.m. at the mall, 1067 W. Baltimore Pike, Media (Middletown Township) Pa., 19063.

There, of course, will also be food, booths and freebies.

No drinks, presumably.

The event director is Janet Lloyd Murphy.

Kill Pirates On The Spot

Chris Freind has some good advice on how handle Somali pirates. The only thing I’d add is that you should bury them at sea in a pig skin and YouTube it.

You can read what he wrote here.

Pa. Bill Takes On ObamaCare

A bill that would prevent significant parts of ObamaCare from being enforced in Pennsylvania has been introduced in the State House where it appears to be languishing in the Appropriations Committee.

HB 42 was introduced
Jan. 19 — two weeks after the session started — by Matthew Baker (R-68) and 61 other representatives.

It prohibits state law enforcement and regulatory agencies from
participating “in compliance with any Federal law, regulation or policy”
that would compromise the “freedom of choice in health care” of any
resident of the state.

The bill also says A law or rule shall not compel, through penalties and fines, directly or indirectly, any individual, employer or health care provider to participate in any health care system.

It also specifically says that an individual or employer may pay directly for lawful health care services and shall not be required to pay penalties or fines for doing so; and specifically allows  health care providers to accept direct payments without penalties.

HB 42 was reported out of the House Health Committee on Feb. 7 by a 14-9 party line vote with Delaware County’s Nicholas Micozzie (R-163) and John Sabatina (D-174) not voting. It was submitted to Appropriations the next day which is chaired by Springfield’s own Bill Adolph (R-165).

Adolph was accused of sitting the bill by Steve Lonegan, the director of the New Jersey chapter of Americans For Prosperity, Saturday, at an event sponsored by AFP in Valley Forge. Lonegan encouraged supporters of the bill to contact Adolph’s offices .

San Francisco Legislators At It Again

Just when you think that people have become as stupid as possible something comes along to prove they haven’t. Since the banning of “Happy Meals” at MacDonald’s in San Francisco, a new, more controversial proposal is being considered that would ban circumcisions of all boys under age 17, and it’s causing lots of debate.

According to ivillage.com, “The latest statistics from the CDC (which, admittedly, is from 1999 — not too recent) reports that 65 percent
of all boys nationally are circumcised (but the percentage drops to
37 percent on the West Coast). Plus, it’s a religious or cultural
tradition for many people. And it’s a controversial topic in
general.”

The reason San Francisco is considering this ban? Lloyd Schofield, the
activist pushing the law, calls it “genital mutilation.” In his
proposal, punishment would be either up to a year of jail time or up
to a $1,000 fine. With all that is going on in the world and in San
Francisco and CA at this time, I am glad that this activist can find
the time to work on an event like this one that will keep the tips of
our male genitalia safe.

For
a climate where so many people seem to preach getting government out
of their personal lives it is strange and amazing that some not only
want government in their lives, but in their bedrooms, and even
governing what can be done to the end of their sex organs. This can
only happen in America.

Government Doesn’t Want to Hear From You

By Dr. John Gilmore

A friend received a petition being distributed by Penn Environment
through email to inform our State Governor about the desire for more
safety regulations to protect the environment and forests in central
PA. Instead of receiving “email sent” upon completing it, she
received a smiling picture of the governor and a code that was called
a puzzler that one had to answer before the email would be accepted.
There was basically a code like FQAH6 (an actual code) and a place
where one had to type in the meaning of the code in order for the
mail to go through. Whether one agrees with Penn Environment or not,
this is yet another example of inaccessible government doing the will
of corporate interest instead of the people and taxation without any
representation. Penn Environment is supporting the legislative
process of regulation in drilling due to the following reasons:

  • Gas
drilling contributed to the contamination of the drinking water
supply of 325,000 people near Pittsburgh in 2008.

  • Already,
drilling has contaminated drinking water in seven Pennsylvania
    counties with dangerous methane gas.

  • In
the past year, nearly a dozen different drilling companies have been
caught breaking cornerstone environmental laws, such as the Clean
Water Act, at their drilling sites.

  • Last
September, drilling activities spilled 8,000 gallons of harmful
pollution into Stevens Creek in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Right
now, state officials are considering policies to help protect the
public from the dangers of gas drilling. Unfortunately it seems that
the people are not allowed to have any input in the process—yet
again, and the government is not interested in hearing what the
people think. Whether one is far left, far right, or even out in the field the one thing that we all need is a government that serves the people and makes decisions based on their input.  This is what is known as democracy.  There is nothing like democracy that works.
Unfortunately, I haven’t seen much of it in our country in the 21st Century.

Read The DNR Before Signing

Those who sign “advance health dare directives” in times of good health should read this tale of a relative’s slow and painful death by the pseudonymous “Zombie” at Pajamas Media.

So whatever you sign make sure it does not say that you want withheld “nutrition and hydration”  because the bean-counters will happily take you at your word.

If  we should make as our form of national execution death via withholding food and water while keeping the condemned passive with morphine, how quick would the Supreme Court rule it to be cruel and unusual punishment?

It really does look like convicted criminals are better treated than our elderly.

Jails And Nursing Homes

Jails And Nursing Homes Courtesy of Judy McGrane

Here’s the way it should be:

Let’s put the seniors in jail and the criminals in nursing homes.

This would correct two things in one motion:

Seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.

They would receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical
Treatment, wheel chairs, etc.

They would receive money instead of having to pay it out.

They would have constant video montering, so they would be helped instantly… If they fell or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes.

All meals and snacks would be brought to them.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight/fitness room, spiritual counseling, a pool and education…and free admission to in-house concerts by nationally recognized entertainment artists.

Simple clothing – ie. Shoes, slippers, pj’s – and legal aid would be free, upon request.

There would be private, secure rooms provided for all with an outdoor exercise yard complete with gardens.

Each senior would have a P.C., T.V., phone and radio in their room at no cost.

They would receive daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear any complaints and the ACLU would fight for their rights and protection.

The guards would have a code of conduct to be strictly adhered to, with attorneys available, at no charge to protect the seniors and their families from abuse or neglect.

As for the criminals:

They would receive cold food.

They would be left alone and unsupervised.

They would receive showers once a week.

They would live in tiny rooms, for which they would have to pay $5,000 per month.

They would have no hope of ever getting out.

“Sounds like justice to me!”

Advice On Anthem Singing

Advice On Anthem Singing — Some good advice going around the internet — and passed onto me by Fran Coppock —  for those honored with singing the National Anthem at public events:

“So, with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event: save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten — straight up, no styling. Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don’t make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification. Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love — not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from the costumes, the makeup and the entourages.  Sing “The Star Spangled Banner” with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America , not you.”
