Chef Bill Jambalaya Tonight’s Meal

Tonight’s meal by Chef Bill Sr. was a jambalaya featuring chicken breast, Italian sausage and a piece of some kind of beef that had been frozen since August. It was delicious. The rice was cooked separately and mixed in afterwards. The bread was Italian and bought at Walmart for  77 cents.

The wine was a homemade Merlot.

Go here, for the recipe upon which it is based.

Obama Cavalry Attacking Woodward

Obama Cavalry Attacking Woodward — Bob Woodward, whose liberal bona fides are such that Hollywood once cast Robert Redford as him, has written a series of articles pointing out that the sequester deal causing so much angst among the government is my god crowd was:

1. Actually President Obama’s idea

2. Never called for tax increases

3. And President Obama is the one who gets to choose what to cut such law enforcement, border security, defense etc.

Now Woodward has revealed that an Obama staffer has called him regarding the stories screaming and making Nixonian threats.

Well, we can’t have Woodward off the reservation now can we? Obama has called out his cavalry i.e. the D.C. media establishment to round him up and bring him back in.

Brietbart.com is keeping a running account of the effort.

School Tax Rebates Still Being Accepted

Applications for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program are currently being accepted, reports State Rep. Jim Cox (R-129).

Eligible participants can receive a rebate of up to $650 based on their rent or property taxes paid in 2012. The program benefits income-eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities.

Renters may earn up to $15,000 annually and qualify for the program, while home owners may earn up to $35,000. Exclude 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits when calculating income.

Residents are reminded to provide all the necessary income, property tax or rental information required to process claims quickly and accurately. Applications are due by June 30, with rebates being mailed after July 1.

Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms are available here.

“While the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program helps some homeowners, I remain committed to the complete replacement of Pennsylvania’s archaic school property tax system,” Cox said.

He said that those interested in learning  about the Property Tax Independence Act (House Bill 76), that he is  sponsoring should visit his webite:  http://www.repjimcox.com

The bill would completely replace the school property tax with other funding mechanisms.

Van Cliburn — A Passing

Harvey Lavan Cliburn, an oilman from Shreveport, La. and his wife, Rildia Bee, had a son on July 12, 1934, whom they named for the father.

The son would grow to become one of history’s greatest classical pianist. He died today at his home in Fort Worth, Tx.

He, of course, made his fame as Van Cliburn.

Answer to yesterday’s puzzle: But who can watch the watchmen?
Juvenal

Jennifer Stefano Hosted By Delco Patriots

An enthusiastic crowd of well over 100 packed the Newtown Square Knights of Columbus Hall, tonight, Feb. 26, to hear Jennifer Stefano, who is the state director of Americans for Prosperity (AFP),  describe the importance of grassroots tea party activism and the need for the groups to present a united front.

The event was sponsored by the Delaware County Patriots.

“A national organization is useless if we don’t have (local people) who trust us,” she said.

Unity was something the left did very well she noted.

“Sometimes we have conversations about nonsense,” she said, however.

She emphasized the importance of priorities.

“Before I ever complain to another group, I’m going to be on the line with my elected officials,” she said.

Among the issues that she discussed was the upcoming sequestration battle which mandates a 2 percent cut in spending — about $85 billion — and was  cooked up by Jack Lew as part of the Budget Control Act of 2011. Lew was then President Obama’s budget director. Obama has since nominated him to be secretary of treasury.

Obama now wants to break the deal and not cut spending. Mrs. Stefano is among those wanting to hold him to his word.

“I’m sure all of us have cut 2 percent (of our spending) over the last two years as all of our incomes have declined,” she said.

Among the state issues she mentioned was holding Gov. Corbett to his pledge to block the Medicaid expansion scheme that would give 700,000  low-wage working people access to the federal program. Whether it would give them access to competent doctors is another matter.

Mrs. Stefano noted that the proposal was anti-poor, as it is being discovered that those on Medicaid have health outcomes actually worse than those without insurance.

Also speaking was Mike Henry, who is the new Philadelphia coordinator of Heritage Action for America, who noted that his group concentrated on federal policy while AFP involved itself in state and federal matters.

Mary Ellen Jones gave the opening and closing remarks.

Bob Guzzardi Likes Rob Wyda

Bob Guzzardi Likes Rob Wyda — Activist Bob Guzzardi says he will be voting for Rob Wyda to be the Republican nominee for state Superior Court on May 21.

Guzzardi says Wyda is not endorsed by the GOP establishment.

The GOP establishment has a bit to do to regain its credibility with many who would otherwise be inclined to support it.
