Marking Fire Prevention Month

The Pennsylvania House has approved a resolution recognizing Pennsylvania Fire Prevention Month, which is October, and National Fire Prevention Week, which is the week in which Oct. 9 falls, State Rep. Jim Cox reports.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, U.S. fire departments responded to 370,000 home structure fires in 2011, resulting in 2,520 civilian deaths and nearly $7 billion in damages.

To ensure proper fire safety, officials suggest practicing these things:

–Have working smoke detectors on every level of the home that are tested monthly and kept free of dust. Batteries should be changed at least once a year.

–Never overload circuits or extension cords. Do not place cords and wires under rugs, over nails or in high traffic areas. Immediately shut off and unplug appliances that sputter, spark or emit an unusual smell. Have them professionally repaired or replaced.

–Practice an escape plan from every room in the house. Caution everyone to stay low to the floor when escaping from fire and never to open doors that are hot. Select a location where everyone can meet after escaping the house. Get out first, and then call for help.

Ignore Howard Zinn, Celebrate Columbus

Ignore Howard Zinn, Celebrate ColumbusIgnore Howard Zinn, Celebrate Columbus –Let us today, this Columbus Day — granted the official observation is Monday — ignore Howard Zinn and celebrate the guy who, for all intents and purposes, discovered America.

Vinland, after all, never really took.

Howard Zinn was a socialist who wrote a book call “A People’s History of the United States” which can be read free online at a site, appropriately enough regarding Zinn, called HistoryIsAWeapon.com.

Zinn claims that America has always been ruled by oppressors — the 1 percenters who own a third of the wealth and keep control by fermenting dissent among the 99 percent who are the rest of us  — and starts his claim with Columbus who he says committed genocide on the residents of the West Indies.

It seems to be the theme pushed by the hipster crowd this 2013.

Well, the truth is the Spanish were pretty rough on the native peoples of the Caribbean, something we know from Spanish sources, but the cruelty was obviously not done at the direction of Spanish authorities as steps were taken to stop it when complaints reached them. Further, the native peoples of the Caribbean were not without their flaws either. The name for the Caribbean comes from the Carib tribe, from whence we also get the word cannibal.

And while Columbus was  far from perfect he does not appear to be the gratuitously cruel tyrant Zinn and our hipster friend claim him to be. In Columbus’ own words this is what he says about the Lucayan peoples of the Bahamas who Zinn et al alleges he mutilated and slaughtered: “They are very gentle and without knowledge of what is evil; nor do they
murder or steal… . Your Highness may believe that in all the world
there can be no better people … they have the sweetest talk in the
world, and are always laughing.

It seems the revisionists are getting their signals crossed somewhere, which is understandable as Zinn is a rather bad historian.

America is a place that allowed tens of millions of Europeans and Asians to escape the feudalism that infected their homelands and her discovery only deserves to be celebrated. Even Africans should celebrate. Slavery existed in Africa — it wasn’t Europeans doing the slavecatching — before the trans-Atlantic slave trade and it was only after the founding of the United States did the push begin to end it. Pennsylvania was the first recognized government in the world, maybe in history, to ban slavery which happened in 1780 in the middle of the Revolutionary War.

Our hipster ironically wants a day named for Bishop Bartolomé de las Casas and there is a point to that as the Bishop is one of history’s good guys.  On the other hand, he was the one who suggested that the labor lost due to the death of Indians be replaced by Africans and some credit him with the start of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

History is a bit more nuanced than Zinn and the hipster crowd make it out to be.

One more bit of irony:  Zinn’s work was popularized by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck who grew up near Zinn and were family friends. Damon and Affleck are now part of the one-percenter crowd. They have yet to give most of their money to the rest of us, and certainly have not led any crusades to end the tax breaks for performing artists who receive mega millions per film.

Female Versus Government Logic

Female Versus Government Logic courtesy of Cathy Craddock

One morning the husband returns after  several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not  familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She  motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, “Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?”

“Reading a book,” she replies, (thinking, “Isn’t that obvious?”)

“You’re in a Restricted Fishing Area,” he informs her.

“I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.”

“Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up.”

“For reading a book, ?” she replies.

“You’re in a Restricted Fishing Area,” he informs her again.

“I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.”

“Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up.”

“If you do that, I’ll have to charge you  with Sexual assault,” says the woman.

“But I haven’t even touched you,” says the game warden.

“That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.”

“Have a nice day ma’am,” and he  left.

Something Worth Pondering Concerning National Debt

With the old media filled with scare stories here is something worth pondering: How exactly can you default by declining to incur more debt?

Well, by running a Ponzi scheme. Nobody is suggesting our government is doing that are they, hmmmm?

If so ending it sooner is better than ending it later.

For the record the federal government is not (yet) running a Ponzi scheme. Revenue not involving new loans is still more than enough to cover existing loan payments. Let’s not let that change. Fight the power.

Internet Debunking Day Of Prayer

False Internet Debunking Day Of Prayer

This interesting item off the internet is mostly untrue or taken out of context. While Obama has not held a White House observation of National Day of Prayer, unlike the Reagan and both Bush administrations, neither did Clinton. There was never a Muslim Day of Prayer event at the White House and Obama did not participate in the one on Capitol Hill that was organized privately. The quote “We are no longer a Christian nation” appears to be a bastardization of a statement he made in Turkey in which he said  “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation, or a Jewish Nation or a Muslim Nation.  We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”

With that said Obama remains an arrogant incompetent and those who voted for him should hang their heads in collective shame.

When we get 100,000,000, that’s one hundred million willing Americans together, voice their concerns and vote, we can take back America with God’s help,

Become one of the 100 million, then let’s get 200 million. It can be done by sending this email to your friends. Do the math. It only takes a willing heart and a fed up soul. God Bless America and Shine your light on Her..

In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a “National Day of Prayer.”

In 1988 President Reagan designated the First Thursday in May   as the National Day of Prayer.

In June 2007 (then) Presidential Candidate Barack Obama declared that the USA “Was no longer a Christian nation.”

This year President Obama canceled the 21st Annual National Day of Prayer ceremony at the White House under the ruse Of “not wanting to offend anyone”

BUT on Sept. 25, 2009 from 4 a.m. until 7 p.m., a National Day of Prayer FOR THE MUSLIM RELIGION was Held on Capitol Hill, Beside the White House.

There were over 50,000 Muslims in D.C. that day.  HE PRAYS WITH THE MUSLIMS!  I guess it Doesn’t matter if “Christians” Are offended by this event – We obviously Don’t count as “anyone” Anymore. The direction this country is headed should strike fear in the heart of every Christian, especially knowing that the Muslim religion believes that if Christians cannot be converted, they should be annihilated. This is not a Rumor – Go to the website To confirm this info: www.islamoncapitolhill.com Send this to ten people and the person who sent it to you!… to let them know that indeed, it was sent out to many more  — in GOD we Trust

Michael Bloomberg Conspiracy Questions

Michael Bloomberg Conspiracy Questions

Some Michael Bloomberg conspiracy questions

Billionaire New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s magazine is warning of “radical legislators” and saying we must fear the debt ceiling debate, namely an unwillingness to raise it.

Here’s some things to ponder: why is there no call to fear deficit spending which has been chronic in the Obama administration? The U.S. budget last year was $3.8 trillion. According to the Treasury Department interest expense on outstanding debt was $359.8 billion. How much of that money does Mr. Bloomberg, who is the 13th richest person in the world, get? His friends? If deficit spending continues will they get more money?

Note that through October of this year we have spent  and $415.7 billion on interest.

Now, just suppose that due to this dispute we fail to make a payment and find ourselves in a technical default? Do you really think people would stop lending us money at a excellent rate if the reason for the missed payment was obviously that we were trying to get our house in order. Don’t let those with an interest in imposing a crushing burden on us panic you. If we can’t say no we can’t be free.

What Sam Rohrer Has Been Up To

Sam Rohrer, the former state representative from Berks County who was one of Pennsylvania’s better political figures, now presides over Pennsylvania Pastors Network.

He recently sent out this note:

It’s been some time since I reached out. I hope you’ve been well in the interim. In the meantime, I’m excited to tell you about the great and encouraging things that have happened this past year.

As you may recall, following the 2012 Senate Primary, I accepted the position of President of the Pennsylvania Pastors’ Network. In my new position, I serve by being a voice for Truth and an advocate for Pastors in the Public Square by providing Bible based and Constitutionally consistent analysis and recommendations on matters of public policy. These include, Constitutional issues, Obamacare, the protection of marriage, parental involvement in education, and the duty of public officials to stand firm against tyranny. My mission in part is to identify, encourage, educate and network pastors to “Stand in the Gap” for Truth and to boldly preach and apply Biblical principles to all these challenges of the day. As in the days of our founding, our Pastors must stand up!

I’ve said it hundreds of times that the answers to our problems won’t come from a political solution, a legislative mandate or a Supreme Court ruling-but from the moral teachings of the Bible. And God has called me to apply Biblical truth to the root problems of our times, and to help repair the broken foundations of our freedom. But I can’t do it alone. I would love for you to be a part of this exciting challenge.

I’d like to invite you to sign up here and join the email list so that you can be plugged in to needs, ideas and opportunities for service. And please feel free to visit our website: www.papastors.net where you’ll find a variety of interesting resources and tools.

Many people wonder if there is still reason to hope, and they wonder if they can do anything to stem the slide into moral and economic decay. I believe there is hope – but the window is closing. In just one year, for example, the Pennsylvania Pastor’s network (PPN) grew from 1200 pastors to over 2200. Now PPN has expanded to include the American Pastors’ Network, which gives us a presence in all 50 states. Yes. There is hope with God’s help, and with your involvement, there is greater hope yet.

ObamaCare Explained Courtesy AFP-PA

Americans for Prosperity — Pennsylvania (AFP-PA) will host a two-hour information session on how ObamaCare will impact individuals starting 6:30 p.m., Oct. 10 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 110 W Market St., West Chester 19382.

“Why?  Because we’re winning,” said AFP-PA director Jennifer Stefano, a frequent guest on Hannity.  That might sound crazy, but . . . Polls show that regardless of political party, the more informed people are on ObamaCare, the more they turn their backs.  In other words, the more people understand, the more they reject.  When we talk about the impact that ObamaCare will have on our lives, our families and our health, people listen!”

Questions to be answered include:

How much will ObamaCare cost you?

Will your doctor be able to provide you the same level of care under the new health care law?

What impact will it have on jobs?

What can you do to mitigate the impact ObamaCare has on you and your family?

Find out the answers to these questions and more by joining us for an informative discussion:

Appetizers and refreshments will be served

“Right now, ObamaCare is more vulnerable than it’s ever been,” said Mrs. Stefano. “For the first time in months, this law is on life-support – but we can’t stop it for good, unless we mobilize millions of Americans like you right now.”

Pa Congressmen Standing Strong Despite MSM Claims

This is a message sent Oct. 3 by Teri Adams of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association.

Dear Members and Friends,

There have been ‘mainstream’ media reports that many of our Region’s Republican Congressmen are willing to caucus with House Democrats to end the government shutdown by passing a clean Continuing Resolution bill–thereby throwing in the towel.

It appears that only a few of them, led by Congressman Charlie Dent, are willing to do so.

(The tri-state region is represented by PA Republican Congressmen Lou Barletta, Charlie Dent, Mike Fitzpatrick, Jim Gerlach, Pat Meehan, Joe Pitts, Scott Perry and NJ Congressmen Leonard Lance, Frank LoBiondo, Jon Runyan, and Chris Smith.)

We have good reason to believe that most of them, despite how they might personally feel, will remain loyal to the House Republican Caucus and see the CR process through to its logical conclusion.

However, in the very near future, the Continuing Resolution phase will have to give way to
the Debt Ceiling negotiations.

As Senator Pat Toomey and others have advised us, it is during this phase that House Republicans will have the upper hand–we should win some important concessions on
ObamaCare and other government fiscal issues.
