Stalking Kids Called Free Speech

John Kane, who is expected to be the Democrats nominee in the race to fill the 26th District Pennsylvania State Senate seat being vacated by Republican Ted Erickson, has released, according to the Delaware County Daily Times, a statement slamming  HB 1154,  the bill recently passed by the State House that would amend the criminal code to prohibit harassment, stalking and the “threat to use weapons of mass destruction.”

Kane claims it seeks to outlaw the right to picket against
unfair or unsafe practices.

“Picketing and protest are essential rights that every American should be guaranteed,” said Kane, of Ridley, who is the business manager for Plumbers Union Local 690

Um, John, taking photos of kids at school bus stops and abusing women in restaurants is not picketing.

Hey, nobody is going to stop you from having a couple of guys standing near a job site wearing signs saying “unfair”

Providing they aren’t blocking anybody’s right of way, of course.

We suspect you will still be able to set up those stupid inflatable giant rats too.

The Republican in the race is County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle, of Springfield.

Go Tom.

HB 1154 still must be passed by the GOP-controlled state senate and signed by Gov. Corbett. It’s not as done a deal as one would think it should be as there are Republicans in that body who are in bed with union bosses and other special interests as much as the typical Democrat.

Jolly News

Teri Adams of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association notes that the unexpected win of Republican David Jolly in a special election, Tuesday, to fill the congressional seat for Florida’s 13 District is a strong denunciation of ObamaCare.

She also congratulated President Obama for postponing enforcement of the troubled program’s individual mandate. She said her group has been pushing for this since the fall.

Legislator Pensions Unconstitutional?

Roger Howard, who is seeking to be the Republican nominee in the 158th District in the Pennsylvania House, is saying that legislative pensions are prohibited by Article II, Section 8 of the Pennsylvania Constitution and has posted the wording on his Facebook page which we repeat here:

The members of the General Assembly shall
receive such salary and mileage for regular and special sessions as shall be
fixed by law, and no other compensation whatever, whether for service upon
committee or otherwise. No member of either House shall during the term for
which he may have been elected, receive any increase of salary, or mileage,
under any law passed during such term.

Seems pretty cut and dry as pensions are certainly not salary or mileage but are clearly compensation.

Of course, don’t expect a state judge happily in bed with those putting an ever tightening yoke on the state’s taxpayers to agree.

Roger has said he will refuse to take a legislative pension if elected.

The primary election is May 20.

Go Roger!

Guzzardi Seeks Answers Regarding Waugh Job

The man mounting a primary challenge to unpopular Republican incumbent Gov. Tom Corbett, today, March 12, asked for an investigation into a sweetheart job received by one of the governor’s political allies.

Bob Guzzardi has sent letters to state Attorney General Kathleen Kane and Peter Smith, who is the U.S. Attorney for Middle District of Pennsylvania asking them to look into the appointment of Mike Waugh as executive director of the state Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg

Waugh represented the 28th District, which is  in York County, in the state Senate from 1999 until Jan. 13 of this year when he stepped down to take the sweet job.

Waugh had initially said he would quit when his term ended in December. He moved up the date, however, after businessman Scott Wagner, who draws the ire of state party bosses, announced he would seek to replace him.

This allowed a special election to be called in which a person backed by the party organization would hold the cards, and which would allow the winner to run as an incumbent in the May 20 primary.

The special election is March 18. Wagner declined to seek a spot on the ballot albeit he is running a write-in campaign.

“It appears that former State Senator Waugh was given the job, paid for with government money, as an incentive to resign his seat by Republican Party leaders in order that they could manipulate the outcome of Primary election for Senate District 28,” Guzzardi says.

Guzzardi notes that Waugh is getting a $104,000 salary plus benefits as Farm Show Complex boss, and that the person who had held the job remains as “special adviser.”

The special election is costing the taxpayers about $200,000.

Dems Tap Lefty La Salle Prof Against Pat Meehan

Springfield Republican Party Chairman Mike Puppio announced at last night’s (Feb. 19) campaign kick-off meeting that the Democrats have tapped La Salle University political science professor Mary Ellen Balchunis-Harris to take on incumbent Republican Pat Meehan in Pennsylvania’s 7th District congressional race.

Visit here to see what Ms. Balchunis-Harris’ students say about her.

Also, Puppio noted that the race to fill the 26th District state senate seat being vacated by Republican Ted Erickson is expected to turn out to be the most expensive state senate race in Pennsylvania’s history.

County Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle, a Springfield mechanic who worked his way up to owning his own garage, will be the GOP nominee.

He is endorsed by the party and does not appear to have a primary opponent.

Corbett Voter ID Stance Will Hurt Him

Independence Hall Tea Party PAC President, Don Adams, called on Governor Tom Corbett to immediately appeal Commonwealth Judge Bernard McGinley’s latest ruling on Voter ID to the full Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court or the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

“Governor Corbett should not appear to be sitting on the fence.  The Governor signed this Voter ID law and should be vigorously defending it.  His relative silence tells us a great deal about his leadership or, should I say, lack thereof,” said Mr. Adams, a resident of Cheltenham township.

“To boot, the Corbett Administration was charged with implementing the 2012 law and the court’s most recent ruling indicts the record of that implementation.

“At the very least, Governor Corbett should have already responded to the court’s criticisms.

“The fact that the Governor has yet to announce an appeal–and has not yet issued a strong rebuttal of the ruling–is extremely troubling.

“The Independence Hall Tea Party fought hard to get the Voter ID bill enacted into law–taking it on as a major legislative initiative in late 2009.  If the Governor refuses to fight for it, why should we fight for his re-election?
“Friday’s ruling by Judge McGinley, a lifelong Democrat, struck down the recent law on its merits, but not its constitutionality under PA law.

“Bottom line, we are concerned that the Judge’s decision will allow voter fraud to continue in the commonwealth–particularly in Philadelphia and Allegheny Counties,” said Mr. Adams.

The false notion advanced by the Judge’s ruling, that there is no evidence of voter fraud in Pennsylvania, is completely incorrect.

“Even partisan Democrat pols like Ed Rendell and Chris Matthews have admitted that voter fraud runs rampant in the state’s largest county–Philadelphia.

As noted National Review columnist John Fund pointed out in his recent article:

In 2012, Philadelphia city commissioner Al Schmidt, a Republican, issued a 27-page report on irregularities he found in a sample of city precincts during that year’s primary. The report, which looked at only 1 percent of the city’s districts, found cases of double voting, voter impersonation, and voting by non-citizens, as well as 23 people who were not registered to vote but nonetheless voted. Schmidt also found reports of people who were counted as voting in the wrong party’s primary. “We identified hundreds of cases of voting irregularities [in select precincts] that warrant further investigation,” he concluded.

“A Philadelphia Inquirer poll, among others, has found that nearly 70% of PA residents favor Voter ID–but Judge McGinley has ruled against the common sense of the overwhelming majority of Pennsylvanians and their state legislators.

“That is the definition of legislating from the bench,” said Mr. Adams.

“If this decision is left intact, it will lead to further feelings of disenfranchisement among a majority of voters who believe their ballots are being undermined by the unchecked cheaters among us.

“If Judge McGinley’s decision is not immediately appealed by Governor Corbett, we will seriously consider withholding our support from the Governor,” said Mr. Adams.

“The Governor’s re-elect numbers are currently in the tank.  He’ll need us in November.  We need him to do the right thing now.”

Corbett Primaried By Bob Guzzardi

Corbett Primaried By Bob Guzzardi
Bob Guzzardi

Main Line businessman Bob Guzzardi has announced that he will be taking on Gov. Tom Corbett in the Republican primary, May 20.

Guzzardi notes that  Corbett is expected to be the first incumbent to lose Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial race since 1854, and that Pennsylvania Republicans need a chance to choose an alternative.

Guzzardi is the first to announce a primary challenge to Corbett.

He cites Corbett’s $2.4 billion annual tax increase and his looming general election defeat as his reasons for running along with the governor’s many failures  such as the inability to privatize liquor sales or pass meaningful prevailing wage reform.

“The contest is between the Forgotten Taxpayer who works, saves and invests to raise the standard of living for all and the establishment insiders who use government for their own financial benefit or who want power,” Guzzardi said.

Guzzardi said that his platform will include true state pension reform; expanding Marcellus Shale natural gas production to lower energy costs, create productive jobs and raise the standard of living for all; and vouchers for all students — not just those living in Philadelphia or low economic areas.
