Jorge Ramos Hair Portraits

Hugo Ybarra, a 34-year-old in San Antonio, Texas, is taking advantage of the dust up between Univision anchor Jorge Ramos and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by painting portraits of Ramos on heads. Jorge Ramos Hair Portraits

Ramos interrupted  Trump who was responding to another reporter  at an Aug. 25 press conference at which point Trump, well, deported him. Trump let him back in 15 minutes later and answered his questions in detail.

Ramos’ daughter is involved with Hillary Clinton campaign.

Anyway, Ybarra, the son of Mexicans, has a reputation for hair portraits in which he puts the images of those such as Kim Kardashian and basketball star Tim Duncan on the heads of the residents of that fair city.

And now Jorge Ramos has reached that level of esteem.

He said that Ramos is now “Algunos hacen sonar la bocina de sus autos,” Ybarra said, or someone who makes car horns sound.

If you’ve missed the Trump-Ramos battle here is The Donald ejecting Jorge:

And here is part of the discussion after he returned:

Trump really can win this thing.

Snopes gives this a mixed grade noting that the source is not the Lost Angeles Times. Most of it actually comes from testimony before Congress in 2005.

It’s mostly accurate in other words.

It should be noted that this has been around the web since 2006 and things have not gotten better.

From the L.A. Times.

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish. (There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County.)

(All 10 of the above facts were published in the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States ‘annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York ) results from immigration. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

Pope Francis Mexican Border

A comment by Pope Francis reported by the Latin Post regarding Hispanic immigration to the United States has riled conservatives.

“To enter the U.S. from the Mexico border would be a beautiful sign of brotherhood and help for immigrants” Francis reportedly said Pope Francis Mexican Borderwith regard to whether he will include a trip to Mexico when he visits the U.S. in September.

We like Francis although he seems to speak more from the heart than the head.  Perhaps that’s what popes should  do.

We, however, will speak from the head. In the spirit of compassion, the first thing to consider is why  those who choose to  emigrate –legally or otherwise — so choose.

Mexico, after all, has resources and climate and sun — better than where many Mexicans immigrants wind up in the U.S.

So whatever can be the reason for the emigration? Could it be the corruption, the greed and the oppression of the Mexican government? Wouldn’t a better sign of brotherhood and help be addressing those issues, Your Holiness, rather than implying the United States is somehow to blame for trying to maintain a semblance of public order.

Just sayin’.

Wizardly Advice On Immigration

Wizardly Advice On Immigration
By Chris Freind

Dear Wizard Of Oz:

Since we are in the season of giving, perhaps you could see fit to bestow upon the Republican Party the three gifts for which you are best known: Brains, courage and a heart. With its newly gained congressional power, the GOP is once again locked in the immigration battle, but, as usual, is doing so without the benefit of common sense and political savvy. Your generosity would provide them the tools necessary to solve a decades-old crisis and, just maybe, give them a shot at the White House in 2016.

Sincerely,

A Nation In Turmoil

If there were a real wizard, the immigration crisis could be solved with a neat fairy tale ending. But there isn’t, which means that many Republicans in Washington are still operating with an intelligence and courage deficit. Not only does this exacerbate the immigration problem, but, if it doesn’t change come soon, the party could see much of its 2014 electoral gains eroded over the next several elections.

Here is a breakdown of what Republicans need to do to effectively lead on the immigration issue:

1. Brains: Having brains doesn’t just mean enacting a strategic political plan to reform immigration, though that is absolutely necessary. It also involves having a memory that doesn’t indulge in revisionist history.

Gaining power is not the Republicans’ problem; governing is. Despite having huge congressional majorities for six straight years during George W. Bush’s presidency, bolstered by high approval ratings after 9/11, the GOP squandered countless opportunities when it failed to pursue its agenda.

It failed to pass market-based health care reform, which ultimately led to Obamacare. It didn’t push domestic oil drilling (nor lift the offshore drilling moratorium that George H.W. Bush implemented) to stimulate manufacturing, resulting in record gas prices and increased reliance on Middle Eastern oil barons. It didn’t reform the highest corporate tax structure in the world, forcing many companies to move overseas. And instead of fixing the immigration crisis, its non-action kept the southern border wide open, compounding the problem in numerous ways.

Before the right screams that that history lesson unfairly picks on Republicans, consider that A) no matter what spin the GOP apologists use, it is undeniable that the Republicans, despite holding all the cards, punted nearly every important issue, and B) the Democrats openly campaign for open borders, national health care, high taxes and moratoriums on domestic drilling. To their credit, they fight for what they believe in; Republicans, for the most part, talk a great game, but don’t walk the walk when it’s crunch time.

Rather than play the blame game (it’s always someone else’s fault — the liberal media, unions, unscrupulous Democrats, etc.), GOP leaders need to buy a mirror to see who is most responsible for past failures. Only then can they hope to formulate a winning strategy.

2. Courage: Republicans need a strong leader who can work with President Obama to formulate a reasonable immigration reform plan. But that person has to be courageous enough to tell the party to tone down the rhetoric, stop the name-calling and work toward a bill rooted in reality. If all the party does is advocate insane ideas to placate the red-meat crowd (such as deporting every illegal, impeaching the president and shutting down the government), yet again nothing will be accomplished.

Such a leader should publicly chastise those pushing congressional Republicans to not invite the president to their chamber for his State of the Union address. The sheer stupidity of that idea (being advocated not just by crackpots but some highly-influential Republicans) is simply incomprehensible. Yet the response of the GOP leadership refuting such a sentiment has been tepid at best.

Lack of courage in calling out your own when they go off the deep end is a harbinger for what kind of immigration reform we can expect. Not a good sign.

3. Heart: Demonstrating strong political will dealing with the immigration issue is not mutually exclusive to showing compassion toward those who come to America seeking a better life for their families. If the GOP plays its cards right, it can get the best of both worlds: solve the problem in a manner acceptable to most Americans, and, in showing that it has a heart, win the loyalty of a growing natural constituency: Hispanics.

Instead of huffing and puffing, perhaps the Republicans should pass the common-sense aspects of the president’s plan (much of it rooted in Republican ideas) and get something, as opposed to nothing, done. Consider the following proposals:

A. Strengthen border security, as long as quickly building a border wall to completion is part of it. We could even make illegal immigrants, as a condition of staying in America, help build the wall.

B. Document those already here, making them learn English and pay penalties and taxes, while deporting any with a criminal history.

C. Not rip apart families by deporting the parents of children born here. What’s more humane than that? (Children born here are American citizens, a point the Constitution makes clear).

D. Streamline legal immigration, especially for skilled workers. The existing waiting period is far too long, encouraging illegal conduct.

E. Crack down on businesses hiring illegal immigrants by mandating use of the government’s free E-Verify system, which instantly determines legal status.

F. And citizenship? No, because that high honor, the envy of the world, should not be bestowed upon those who broke the laws of this country. And newly documented workers should not automatically be granted permanent residence, as being in America is a privilege, not a right.

* * *

There is a reasonable way to solve the immigration crisis, and the ideas outlined above are a good starting point. Should the president act unilaterally, as he is advocating, and which is understandably infuriating many Republicans? That’s a separate issue, and one that merits careful scrutiny about the limits of executive power. Yet it is worth noting that American history is filled with presidents of both parties acting boldly to fulfill a vision when Congress sat idle in the face of threats.

The debate about the president’s power will rage on, but ultimately it will prove moot if both the president and Republicans place ego aside and negotiate common sense solutions to a problem both sides should have solved long ago.

That’s the yellow brick road they should follow.

El Tren De La Muerte

A system of freight trains in Mexico known in Spanish as El tren de la muerte i.e. The Death Train also known as La Bestia or “The Beast” has entered the popular culture in points south with hit songs and documentaries.

The migrants, mostly from Central America, hop rides on the trains like the Great Depression hobos which takes them from Mexico’s southern border to our own.

The traffic is estimated at a half-million persons annually.

Here it is in action:

Marino Vs Pelosi UpdateMarino Vs Pelosi Update: A rant by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi caused her to be removed from the floor of Congress it has been reported

As reported here on Aug. 3 remarks made by Congressman Tom Marino (R-Pa10) on Aug. 1 concerning the border bill being debated in the House sent former Minority Leader and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi into a hissy fit.

Well, we have an update courtesy of Breitbart.com, Congresswoman Pelosi’s rant caused her to be forcibly removed from the floor of Congress by the sergeant at arms. It was likely unprecedented.

Brutally Honest Border Patrol Agent

A trucker recorded this conversation with a brutally honest border patrol agent while coming back from Mexico as reported by Twitchy.com.

Border Patrol agent: How you doing, U.S. Border Patrol. How many people on board?

Travis Pope: Me.

Border Patrol agent: U.S. citizen?

Travis Pope: Yeah, but does it really matter?

Border patrol agent: Not anymore, unfortunately. Thank you.

Amnesty Supporters Better See Other Side

The lovely Christine Flowers, in yesterday’s, Aug. 3, Delaware County Daily Times had an article decrying the plight of the Latin American children flooding our border that included some bald criticisms of those angry and concerned about it.

Christine, an immigration lawyer who personally knows some of the refugees, had some points it must be recognized. Mercy is good. Compassion is good. Children should be protected. Many of these children who came across should be allowed to stay.

However, once those things are conceded, questions must be asked. Is  an open border with Mexico a good thing? Especially right now? Is she advocating one? Does she really believe our immigration and border laws are unnecessary and unjust?

If that is the case, she ought to have the guts to come right out and say it. If not, she better start suggesting some ways of enforcing them. For some strange reason, amnesty supporters never do. It’s a one-way street with them.

We don’t think the solution is all that complicated, namely we stop rewarding people for breaking the law. If we were to require E-Verify to be in every government agency and school, 90 percent of the problems would end.

Further why aren’t state and local law enforcement allowed to act upon the immigration laws when it makes sense for them to do so? People who ask this are called names but their arguments are not rebutted. Of course, it is pretty hard to rebut an argument that law enforcement officers enforce laws.

Finally we must demand reform in the corrupt kleptocracies that make up the nations that flood us with illegals. There is a reason why these people want to come here, after all. Once adequate reform is made,  their citizens will stop trying to cross our border and if the reform is adequate enough we might not even care if the border is open.

If amnesty supporters really want a nation built upon the principle of “out of many one” they better stop with the “my way or you’re a bigot” attitude.

Pa Congressman Hits Nerve On Pelosi

Tom Marino Pa Congressman Hits Nerve On PelosiCongressman Tom Marino

Congressman Tom Marino (R-Pa10) hit a nerve with Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca12) during remarks supporting a border security bill, Friday, Aug. 1.

“You know something that I find quite interesting about the other side?” Marino said.  “Under the leadership of the former Speaker [Pelosi], and under the leadership of their former leader [Rep. Steny Hoyer], when in 2009 and 2010, they had the House, the Senate and the White House, and they knew this problem existed. They didn’t have the strength to go after it back then. But now are trying to make a political issue out of it now.”

This prompted Pelosi to say something from the floor.

Marino responded by saying “It’s true, madam leader, I did the research on it. You might want to try it. You might want to try it, madam leader. Do the research on it. Do the research. I did it. That’s one thing that you don’t do.”

After Marino sat down, Pelosi then was caught on C-SPAN cameras waddling across the aisle to apparently continue the fight.

Marino tweeted about it. “Rep. Pelosi called me an ‘insignificant person’ on the Floor of the House. I’ll ponder that for a while driving to Williamsport tonight. . . .of course I’ll be driving myself with no staff or security. And I’m just a country lawyer who worked in a bakery until he was 30.”

Pelosi is famous for her travel extravagance.

The bill passed in the House, by the way. However, as the Senate is not in session the necessary legislation is unlikely go to the President’s desk for him to veto as he promised.

Below is the entire incident courtesy of C-SPAN. Watch the heads of the stenographer and others turn starting at the 2:20 mark.
