Delco Human Rights Commission Will Protect Men Using The Ladies Room

Delco Human Rights Commission Will Protect Men Using The Ladies Room — Delaware County (Pa) Council, last night, Aug. 20, heard the first reading of an ordinance for an human relations commission.

This commission will be empowered to levy fines and penalties. This means unnecessary headaches for employers, landlords and whoever else finds himself with a responsibility of providing services or products.

The ordinance creates a myriad of protected classes — including transgender — and these protected people will get to file complaints and grievances.

Say goodbye to private bathrooms, ladies of Delco.

Oh, the law applies to education too. Natural born girls can expect to ride the bench if they even bother trying out for the school team.

Unless, federal law should “Trump” it, as appears likely.

Several spoke in favor of the ordinance. These included two mothers of transgender children, and Rosalind Spigel, a member of the Haverford Township Human Relations Commission.

Paul Rumley of Springfield gave damning reasons as to why the law was bad. The commission is superfluous as the state has one already, he noted, and merely adds another level of bureaucracy to Delco government.

He quoted a column by former Delco Councilman Wally Nunn, pointing out that the protected categories in the county now include race, ethnicity, religion, creed, national origin, sex, pregnancy, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, genetic information, GED over high school diploma, disability, source of income, age, height, weight, veteran status, guide animals, and even domestic or sexual violence victim status.

Rumley further explained that while the commissioners will be unpaid their staff must certainly will be. The burden on county taxpayers will grow ever larger.

Media GOP Chairman Michael Straw also addressed the issue. Straw noted he was openly gay and expressed support for the non-discrimination rules but had serious skepticism regarding the commission due to the cost that will be most certainly associated with it.
