Give Thanks For It All

I am hoping that many people today can just stop, and take the time to practice Thanksgiving Day not only as a time to feast, but as a time to be thankful.  Not only thankful for the things that make them comfortable.  It is good to be thankful for those things: a nice home; friends; family; and a good community, but it is difficult to be grateful for the things that challenge us and force us to grow.

There is a lot going on in the world now.  People are struggling to either find the truth, or to shut down all opposing voices and hold onto their own truths.  Both of these paths lead to stagnation.  “When someone things they have found The Truth,” as Sifu Steve Hutchinson, the founder of Dragon Kenpo says, “They build a wall around themselves and their truth and the fight to keep it safe from new thoughts and ideas.”
This stops them from growing and from being better people.  It stops them from understanding the world and seeing it in different ways.  Lastly, it stops us from changing the behaviors that worked well long ago, but that don’t work now because of the growth of technology and knowledge in the world.
I think we should be thankful, therefor, for the things that challenge us as well as the rest.  We should learn to embrace those things and trust that at least taking a look at, and understanding a different point of view, and the people who have that point of view, so that we can grow and become better people.  We should be thankful, therefor, for everything that makes us grow, and that can be anything, depending on how we look at it.  What better time to begin such appreciation than on Thanksgiving Day.

  1. Bill this is what I’m trying to get across to you about Fox News and Rush. They do not present all of the information correctly. They distort, conceal, and outright lie about the news. Plus Rush is rude, vulgar, insulting and racist. If you get your news exclusively from these sources you are missing the real facts of very important issues. This is why the GOP was overwhelmed by the recent lost election. They weren’t getting the news about how far behind they were in the polls and what the real issues were. The information that I’m hearing about the fiscal cliff from them is so untrue and just outright wrong. They deal with hate and fear that is how they control the uninformed citizens like you. I can’t believe you put this article on your website.

“They build a wall around themselves and their truth and the fight to keep it safe from new thoughts and ideas.”

If you think that listening to Rush is what everyone should do and don’t see a problem with his show, you have built a wall around your truth.

  2. I beg to differ; Jon Stewart doesn’t call women hos, sluts or blabbermouth. He doesn’t call Latinos illegals. He doesn’t call black people the “N” word. He doesn’t call people by any names except joke names which are not offensive or insulting. First of all everything is couched as a joke and he is not a news source. He doesn’t demonize the opposition of forecast glum and doom. He plays clips of the people showing them in their own words. Rush admits freely that he is a racist.

Everything I read from Rush is hate Obama and fear that everything is getting worse under Obama. It is a LIE that Obama Care will raise taxes and cause insurance to be more expensive. I heard Rush and Romney say that Chrysler was moving all Jeep jobs over-seas, even when Chrysler came out and said it wasn’t true he double downed. This was a lie!! This was a deliberate lie to win votes in Ohio. Democrats manipulated the weather so Republicans would miss the first days of their convention, really.

Rush “Happy Thanks Giving but freeze leftovers for next year because you won’t be able to afford it” , absurd.

I agree that he probably get lots of calls with people claiming all kinds of things but just because one of his calls claims something is true doesn’t make it so. That is why I don’t listen to talk shows because anyone can dial a phone, doesn’t make him smart or right.

  3. “Under the guise of defending “religious freedom,” Rush Limbaugh is degrading women who use birth control as “sluts” and “prostitutes.” I remember Rush was taken off the air for a week and lost a lot of sponsors because he called Sandra Fluke a slut.

  4. I read your piece again. Why are you saying lies about Rush?

Rush admits freely that he is a racist.

    Defend that statement.

  5. No, Rush is stating that everyones taxes will go up drastically and cost of insurance will go up and be affordable. If you don’t see these lies and exaggerations. Hate and Fear. “They build a wall around themselves and their truth and the fight to keep it safe from new thoughts and ideas.”

  6. No, Rush is stating that everyones taxes will go up drastically and cost of insurance will go up and be affordable.

As are the business owners who are having to deal the consequences of this law first hand.

Hey, I hope your right and Rush is wrong.

  7. I reject the premise that Rush & FNC lie. They make mistakes as do all media outlets — possibly excepting this one.

Fox picks and chooses what stories to cover as do all media outlets. These decisions may not be to your liking, but that is why media outlets with varied viewpoints are necessary.

With regard to Rush, his commentary is event driven so one cannot fairly accuse him of trying to hide anything.

Rush can be rude, vulgar and insulting but that’s pretty much where the mainstream is in our culture. Consider Jon Stewart.

Or even better, consider the lyrics “If you’re havin’ girl problems i feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one” by a certain prominent Obama supporter.

Rush is less vulgar or insulting than either Stewart or Jay Z.

Rush is not racist. Not even a little bit. He is the victim of horrific slander and decent people of whatever political persuasion should come to his defense.

I think everyone should listen to Rush at least on occasion and with an open mind, just as I think they should watch Stewart and Steve Colbert on occasion with an open mind, or read the New York Times and Huffington Post.

I think Bill O’Reilly is a waste of time as is the entire MSNBC lineup, but I wouldn’t condemn anyone for watching them.

If not listening to Rush is what you advocate that everyone should do, don’t lecture me about building walls around truth.

  8. I beg to differ; Jon Stewart doesn’t call women hos, sluts or blabbermouth.

Um, Jay Z does. Maybe not blabbermouth, though.

BTW, Rush doesn’t call “women” i.e. females in general those things unlike, well, Jay Z. He did use a few unfortunate words to refer to a particular female who was asking people to give her $3,000 for birth control. He recognized that he should not have used those words, however, and apologized.

With regard to Debbie Wasserman Schultz who he refers to as “Blabbermouth” you can take the position she is a weak, helpless “woman” hence needs to be protected. Or you can take the position that she is a ruthless and powerful political figure who needs slings and arrows sent her way, and that she is well able to take it.

    He doesn’t call Latinos illegals.

Neither does Rush. He does call people who are here illegally, illegals though. While many of these happen to be Hispanic, many others are Irish, Russian, Chinese, African etc. It is bad to stereotype. What would you call people who are here illegally?

He doesn’t call black people the “N” word.

Neither does Rush. If you listened to him, you would know that.

    OTHO, cough, cough.

Regarding moving production of Jeeps to China, it’s really not Chrysler’s call as it is now owned by Fiat, and, well, let’s not be so sure that Rush and Romney were wrong.

It is true that corporate denials have been issued, but you don’t strike me as the type that normally believes PR statements from corporations.

Is it a lie that ObamaCare will raise taxes? ObamaCare is a tax now, remember?
