Season Reason Bugs HOA In Gettysburg

Season Reason Bugs HOA — A homeowners association in Gettysburg ordered Mark and Lynn Wivell to remove the word “Jesus” from a Christmas display.

HOAs are notorious for their enforcement of conformity and lack of respect for the wishes of the residents to personalize their abodes, still this association allowed for Christmas decorations.

A resident, though, apparently offended by the reason for the season, complained and the timid mice who run things danced to the complainer’s tune rather than let matters run their inevitable course namely the word’s removal in mid-January.

The Wivells say the plan on keeping the word as part of their display until the schedule time to take it down on Jan. 15.

Good for the Wivells. How about just following the principle that if someone is not hurting you just let them be?

Hat tip Bob Small.

Hypocrite Charles Barkley Spouts Economic Stupidity

Hypocrite Charles Barkley Spouts Economic Stupidity — Charles Barkley, who became rich playing a child’s game,  provided this bit of economic wisdom concerning the just passed tax bill, Dec. 21, on TNT’s “Inside the NBA”:

“Shaq, they said it’s going trickle down, I’m going to trickle my fat ass down to the jewelry store to get me a new Rolex. They’re not going to pass it to nobody. Thank you, Republicans, I knew I could always count on y’all to take care of us rich people, the one-percenters. Sorry, poor people. I’m hoping for y’all, but y’all ain’t got no chance.”

Leaving aside he’s likely going to pay a hefty sales tax on that Rolex, leaving aside the clerk’s job became safer because he bought the Rolex and leaving aside the store owner — who is probably not a one-percenter — is going to put the profit he made from the sale to things like providing food and shelter and transportation for himself and family, what exactly is stopping him from just giving half his wealth to the poor?

He’d still be richer than most of us.

PSEA Anti-School Anti-Child Pro Power

PSEA Anti-School Anti-Child Pro Power

PSEA Anti-School Anti-Child Pro PowerBy Scott Wagner

“It is not because we care about children, and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective because we have power.”

These were sad and shocking admissions made by Bob Chanin, a leader of the National Education Association, an organization of which the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) is a member and significant funder.

I think it’s time Pennsylvanians have a serious conversation about the PSEA.

Protecting power — not kids, teachers and taxpayers — is what drives the PSEA. And the PSEA is Tom Wolf’s largest union funder.

Worse yet, in Pennsylvania, public sector employees — like teachers — don’t get to choose whether or not they pay dues.  Dues are taken from their paychecks and sent to the unions — like the PSEA — whether teachers like it or not.

This method of collecting union dues has made the PSEA very, very powerful.

And I’ve seen firsthand how the PSEA uses teachers’ dues against them, and against students and taxpayers. They block every effort that would benefit these stakeholders — like solving the pension crisis so that money can actually go to the classroom, and eliminating school property taxes so hardworking people can keep their homes.

Back in February, the Pennsylvania State Senate passed a bill that would stop the PSEA from collecting involuntary dues, and curb their ability to block what’s good for stakeholders. Senate Bill 166 (Paycheck Protection) passed with a vote of 28 (Y) to 22 (N), and upon passage was sent to the House for a vote. This past week, however, the State House defeated the bill by a vote of 102 (no) to 90 (yes).

The PSEA doesn’t like me much — and I’m not particularly fond of the way they work against teachers, students and taxpayers — but make no mistake. When I’m governor, changing this power dynamic will be a top priority of my administration.

Unlike Bob Chanin and the PSEA, as the governor of Pennsylvania, I will be representing children, teachers and taxpayers from day one, because for me, it is about children, and it is about having a great public school for every child, every teacher and every taxpayer.

Sen. Wagner represents the 28th District in the Pennsylvania Senate and is seeking the Republican nomination for governor in 2018.

Blue Christmas William Lawrence Sr. Omnibit 12-21-17

There really is such a thing called Blue Christmas. It is an Advent season church service held on Dec. 21 as it is more often than not the Winter Solstice which is the longest night of the year. It honors people who have lost loved ones in that year.

Using GAB, Where Twitter Refugees Go

Using GAB, Where Twitter Refugees GoUsing GAB, Where Twitter Refugees Go — Twitter permanently banned accounts, Dec. 18, of those it deemed to be practicing hate speech. Nobody likes bigots but Twitter’s action looked suspiciously like a purge of those dissenting from the politics and aesthetics of those of the Twitter bosses.

While our account as of this writing is in good standing we have been spending our time on GAB, a website dedicated to open discourse and free speech.

Powerful forces are calling GAB a hate site because of this principle.

Oh yes, there is hate on that site. We have found full-blown Nazis, and misogynists. We have found Christian-hating atheists and other assorted bigots.

On the other hand, we have also found out-spoken Zionists and Muslims. We have found fans of  notorious homosexual Milo Yiannopoulos’ Dangerous.com; along with just generally nice people posting Bible verses and wishing all a Merry Christmas.

The only prohibitions on GAB concern posting private information, threats including terrorism, and illegal pornography.

Free-speech sites don’t have a great track record. They invariably  seem to fall to trolling and devolve to petty bickering. GAB has wrinkles, though, that give us hope for its success. It is very easy to “mute” posters — i.e. personally ban them — along with words one might find offensive.  It is ad free and hopes to make a profit by charging those wishing options like identity verification or access to the looming service of GABTV, a $5.99 monthly subscription.

We wish it well and encourage all to check it out. It can be found here.

Winter 2017 Starts Now

Winter 2017 Starts Now
Yes Skyler, the extended forecast indicates that when get here you will have snow.

Winter 2017 Starts Now  — Today, Dec. 21, is 2016’s winter solstice which is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight during the whole year.

If this website’s clock is properly synched it is 11:28  a.m.. EST.  and that means winter has started.

The word solstice comes from the Latin words for “sun” and “to stand still.” As per the Old Farmer’s Almanac: In the Northern Hemisphere, as summer advances to winter, the points on the horizon where the Sun rises and sets advance southward each day; the high point in the Sun’s daily path across the sky, which occurs at local noon, also moves southward each day.

At the winter solstice, the Sun’s path has reached its southernmost position. The next day, the path will advance northward. However, a few days before and after the winter solstice, the change is so slight that the Sun’s path seems to stay the same, or stand still. The Sun is directly overhead at “high-noon” on Winter Solstice at the latitude called the Tropic of Capricorn.
