Lawrence County 9/11 Rally Went Smoothly

Lawrence County 9/11 Rally Went Smoothly — Lynette Mountain tells us that the long-planned — and strangely long-fought — rally in New Castle, Pa. to  commemorate victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack went off without a hitch.

Lawrence County had refused to grant a permit unless the rally organizers agreed to indemnify it for possible damages done by counter-protestors.

The county never granted a permit but the organizers Bikers for Trump (Boots on the Ground), and Bikers for America sought a federal injunction allowing it to take place.

Lynette says about 70 persons attended and only one pathetic counter-protestor.

An underlying issue is the disputed sale by the state of the former New Castle Youth Development Center to HIRA Educational Service, a questionable Islamic group based in New Jersey.

Some officials were calling the rally “anti-Muslim.”

Gale Makes Planned Parenthood Shriek With Fear

Gale Makes Planned Parenthood Shriek With Fear
Thank you Joe Gale

Gale Makes Planned Parenthood Shriek With Fear — Montgomery County Republican Commissioner Joe Gale is under fire from the usual suspects for his unwavering criticism of Planned Parenthood.

Criticizing Planned Parenthood should be about as controversial as criticizing the Ku Klux Klan, but leave that aside.

And leave aside the organization’s history in defending statutory rape and even sex trafficking.

And leave aside how it nonchalantly sought to profit from the sale of body parts left after abortions.

Planned Parenthood is ineffective at decreasing teen sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancies. Actually, there is pretty good evidence that it makes things worse despite what one might hear from the group’s apologists.

Ask yourself why can’t a school district handle sex and health education itself? And while you are asking yourself that, ask how much Planned Parenthood is getting in tax money for its school-based clinics. The organization makes a whole lot of people very nice livings.

The Jewish word for Hell is Gehenna. The name comes from a small valley in Jerusalem were children were sacrificed in fire.

Just something to remember.

Lawrence County Fights 9/11 Rally To Appease Muslims?

Lawrence County Fights 9/11 Rally To Appease Muslims? — A rally to commemorate 9/11 in being stonewalled by Lawrence County, Pa. officials.

The event, scheduled for noon to 3 p.m., tomorrow, Sept. 9 in New Castle, is not being granted a county permit unless the organizers agree to indemnify the county for damages even if done by counter-protestors.

According to Lynette Mountain of Bikers for Trump (Boots on the Ground), her group along with Bikers for America have been planning the event for months to memorialize the 3,000-plus citizens and first responders who died in the 2001 terrorist attack.

She says they have obtained a city permit but the county will not grant one unless the organizers agree to the rules passed Wednesday.

Ms. Mountain says the organizers have sought a federal injunction against the just-passed rules and will hold the rally regardless. She expects attendance to be only between 50 and 100 persons.

She said an underlying issue is the disputed sale by the state of the former New Castle Youth Development Center to HIRA Educational Service, a Islamic group based in New Jersey.

HIRA had the high bid of $400,000 for the  140-acre site in Shenango Township. Issues have been found regarding HIRA —   company claims only one employee working in an apartment in Newark, New Jersey, and has not reported income of more than $50,000 in each of the past three years — and the site is being re-auctioned.

Ms. Mountain said her rally is being called “anti-Muslim” by some officials.

Shadow Budget Can Be Used To Bring Balance In Pa.

Shadow Budget Can Be Used To Bring Balance In Pa.

By Leo Knepper

At the end of June Pennsylvania’s 2017-2018 budget became law. It was unbalanced and there wasn’t a plan in place for how to pay for it. A significant part of the problem was that the Governor and legislature did nothing to reduce spending in 2016-2017 after it became clear that the revenues they expected were not going to materialize. The Governor and the majority of the General Assembly could have reduced spending in the new budget, but they didn’t. Instead Senate Republican leadership and Democrats in that chamber passed a tax increase and want to rely of borrowing to balance the budget.

The Governor, the media, and Senate Republican leaders have been insisting that the House Republicans were being negligent in not passing the tax hike. CAP and other organizations have insisted that there were other ways of balancing the budget. As we’ve noted it is possible to cut earmarks and overhead. We can add another option to that list as well: tapping the “Shadow Budget“.

Our friends at the Commonwealth Foundation have written extensively on this subject. Now, a group of lawmakers have taken the next step and introduced a proposal to tap into reserves from the Shadow Budget to make up for the revenue shortfall. Per the Commonwealth Foundation:

“…Pennsylvania holds nearly $73 billion in surplus fund balances, including $11 billion in the Treasury’s shared pool. This includes funds for many of the state’s shadow budget programs. The funding for these and other programs are deposited into three investment pools.”

The proposal offered by House members would transfer $1.2 billion in excess reserves, from Treasury’s shared pool. This is money that taxpayers, ratepayers, and/or fee payers have already sent to the Treasury Department. Furthermore, this isn’t money that has been allocated to a specific project. Instead, this is money that is being held well in excess of the expected expenses and future revenues. In some cases, these are structural surpluses that have been accumulating for years or decades outside of the General Fund and normal budgeting process.

Taking money from the Shadow Budget’s unexpended funds won’t affect a single state employee or budgeted expenditure. However, it will save taxpayers from yet another tax increase. The question is whether the majority of Republicans in the General Assembly and the Governor will side with taxpayers or tax-and-spend special interests.

Among those it spared was Branch Rickey, a major in the 1st Gas Regiment, albeit he had to be carried to shore at  Brest on a stretcher due to pneumonia.

Rickey would be the one to break the color barrier in major league baseball by signing Jackie Robinson for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
