Pennsylvania Republicans Twist Thumbscrews On Taxpayers — The Republican-controlled Pennsylvania State Senate voted today to pass a tax increase that will see heating, air conditioning and use of communications become more expensive.
The vote was 26-24. Fourteen of the 34 Republicans in the 50 member body voted yes. The guilty ones were:

Jerry Oleksiak Ghost Teacher — Last week, Governor Wolf once again put his ideology ahead of what is best for Pennsylvania when He nominated Jerry Oleksiak to be the new Labor Secretary. Mr. Oleksiak is the President of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), the largest teachers’ union in the Commonwealth. Making matters worse, Oleksiak also took part in one of the most tax-payer abusive practices available to union officials: he was a ghost teacher.
As a ghost teacher, Oleksiak worked full time for the PSEA, but he collected a paycheck, accumulated seniority, and pension benefits from the Upper Merion School District. Although the district was reimbursed for his salary and health benefits, Oleksiak and the PSEA still rely on the generosity of taxpayers to cover his lifetime pension benefits.
Mr. Oleksiak penned an editorial questioning the fitness of President Trump’s selection for Education Secretary because of her lack of experience in the classroom. Using experience as a measuring stick, how does Oleksiak stack up?
Has he ever dealt with the unemployment system as an employer? Has he ever had to appeal a workers’ compensation assessment? We can continue this line of inquiry for some time, and the answer would continue to show a dearth of experience on the part of Mr. Oleksiak.
In our conversations with business owners and employers, no one has ever complained to us that Pennsylvania wasn’t pro-organized labor enough. According to most recent studies, Pennsylvania ranks at the bottom of places to do business; our labor regulations are a significant reason why. A Labor Secretary with no experience in the private sector and a decade’s worth of experience advocating for policies hostile to the best interest of taxpayers would make the Commonwealth even less appealing to job creators.
Oleksiak’s nomination will go to the Senate where there is an opportunity to stop it. Republicans have a supermajority in the Senate, but so far they have not been willing to use it to benefit taxpayers. Here is a chance for Senators to remedy that mistake.

Election Integrity Commission May Collect Data
Election Integrity Commission May Collect Data — U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the District of Columbia ruled, July 24, that President Trump’s Commission on Election Integrity may resume collecting detailed voter roll information from the states.
The commission is seeking the public information including the names of registered voters, the last four digits of their Social Security numbers, criminal records, and voting history.
Democrat-connected groups are opposing this investigation along with the District of Columbia and 17 Democrat-controlled states including Pennsylvania.
Hmmm. What could possibly be the reason??
Judge Kollar-Kotelly did not compel the states to turn over the information which was probably the correct thing to do at this point considering our federal system. It just means the grassroots are going to have to get involved. In Pennsylvania, that means getting rid of Tom Wolf as governor.
The commission is chaired by Vice President Mike Pence and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Kobach ran a successful investigation into vote fraud in his state.

Daedalus Crete Chicken, A Legendary Recipe

An extremely skilled worker named Daedalus many years ago, lived on the island of Crete. King Minos, who placed Daedalus in charge of building the island’s famed labyrinth, recognized his talents.
Soon after the labyrinth was completed, however, King Minos became very angry with Daedalus and ordered him sent to prison. Daedalus escaped from the prison, found his young son, Icarus, and took him to hide out in a cave. They could not leave the island because Minos put a watch on every ship.
One day, while lying on the beach, Daedalus became interested in the flight of a bird. He decided to build wings for Icarus and himself and fly from the island.
He carefully inspected the feathers of many birds and fowl, including those of the chickens he used to prepare a delicious meal.
He tied the larger feathers with thread onto a wooden frame. He used wax to bind the smaller feathers. Finally he finished. He fastened the wings to his arms, and copied the movements of the birds. Soon, he was soaring above the earth.
He then gave Icarus flying lessons. The boy was a fast, but impatient, learner. His father warned him not fly too low for the damp air would cause the feathers to stick together. And to be especially careful of flying too high. If he got near the sun, the heat would melt the wax.
The sight of Daedalus and Icarus flying over them boggled the shepherds and farmers. They winged over Samos and Delos. Icarus, in a burst of enthusiasm, forgot his father’s warning.
He soared higher and higher until the sun caused the wax to melt. Like a crippled bird, he fell and crashed into the Aegean Sea, near an island that today is called Icaria.
Daedalus mourned the loss of his son. He remembered the good days when Icarus reaped the wild oregano to be used in the wonderful chicken recipe which is below and obviously moderinzed.
Daedalus’ Crete Chicken
3 Lbs. chicken pieces
1/2 Cup vegetable oil
1/4 Cup lemon juice
2-1/2 Tsp. dried oregano
3/4 Tsp. salt
1/2 Tsp. pepper
1/2 Tsp. garlic powder
Place chicken in baking dish. Pour mixed ingredients over chicken. Bake uncovered in 375° F oven for an hour, occasionally spooning sauce over chicken and turning once. Garnish with citrus fruit slices — lime or orange — are nice and serve.

She spent a lot of time taking care of their nine kids, and she copied the manuscript of her husband’s epic novel, “War and Peace” seven times by hand.
