Bette Alburger R.I.P. –We got the sad news that our long-time friend Elizabeth A. (Bette) Alburger died Sept. 30 at Maris Grove Senior Living Community.
She was 93.
Bette was a reporter in Delaware County for many years, most notably with the County Press newspapers but also with the Daily Times and others.
She was a charter member and past president of the Delaware County Press Club and won numerous journalism awards.
Bette was a member of the Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church in Rutledge where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, edited the church newsletter and served as an ordained deacon and ruling elder.
She graduated from Penn State in 1953 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism.
It was at Penn State where she met George, with whom she would enter into a 68-year marriage.
George died in 2022.
Bette was a member of Quill & Scroll; the Philadelphia Press Association; the International Food, Wine & Travel Writers Association; the Middletown Township Business & Professional Association and the Dormont Historical Society.
She authored five annual editions of Life in Delaware County for the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce for which she won numerous awards.
She is survived by her daughter Sorrel Ann of New York; grandson Cliff of Seattle; two beloved cousins, cherished nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Nov. 8 at Maris Grove Chapel , 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, Pa.
