Honk If You Love Jesus

Dear Grand-daughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a ‘Honk if you love Jesus’ bumper sticker .

I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting..

So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper. Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience that followed.

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn’t notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn’t honked, I’d never have noticed.

I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, ‘For the love of God!’ ‘Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!’

What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!

Everyone started honking!

I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people.

I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach.

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air.

I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant.

He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something.

Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back.

My grandson burst out laughing.

Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me.

I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared.

So I slowed the car down leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!!

Will write again soon,

Grandma

Chinese Christians Defy Government

Chinese Christians Defy Government

Tom Coniglia submitted this article regarding how the ever growing Chinese Christian population is defying their government which is starting to see them as a threat to the official atheism.

The government hired a crew to rip off the metal cross from atop a one-room church in Wuxi. The next day a church member used his own welding torch to put it back.

He was detained and questioned for 10 hours on the charge of operating a welding business without a license.

A week later the crew again removed the cross. Again church members put it back.

Officials have now cut off water and electricity to the church and asked questions about the congregations work and education.

Whether it be Beijing or Washington, progressives seem to fear and hate Christianity and its symbols.

Just Price And Saint John Bosco

Chuck Martini of Upper Providence forwarded us a great little publication called Return To Order which is affiliated with a website that can be found here.

It includes the story Saint John Bosco and a blacksmith friend.

The pair were talking and the blacksmith said, “Do you know what my biggest worry is?”

“Surely it must be to live and die in the grace of God,” said the Saint.

“No, I’m not worried about death. I take care, though, to be prepared for it when it comes,” said the smith. “My biggest worry is this: I am a blacksmith, and I am very troubled when finishing a job I have to decide on the price I must charge. As I enter the charge in my book I ask myself: Will the good Lord write down the same amount? If I charge more, won’t that be a charge against me? To play it safe, I always charge 20 percent less than the ordinary rate.”

For some strange reason the smith was fairly prosperous and never lacked for customers.

It’s  official.

The Ukrainian Greek Catholic parishes of Holy Ghost in Chester and Saints Peter and Paul in Clifton Heights will be merging to Holy Myrrh Bearers with its home at the historic former Leiper Presbyterian Church, 900 Fairview Ave., Ridley Township albeit with a Swarthmore address.

Leiber, which opened in 1819, closed Jan. 8, 2012. Among those who worshiped there were presidents Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison and James Buchanan.

It was purchased by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia in March.

Holy Ghost at 3015 W. 3rd St., and Saints Peter and Paul at 100 S. Penn St., will be closed and sold.

The first service at the new church is scheduled for Sept. 28 with a blessing ceremony the day before.

The Holy Myrrh Bearers, were those involved with the burial of the Lord Jesus and the discovery of the empty tomb on Easter.

UPDATE: the first service is now scheduled for Nov. 2 with the blessing ceremony the preceding day.

Pope Says Redistribute Wealth

Pope Francis has called for the redistribution of wealth.

At leas that’s what the AP is reporting so there is a better than even chance his comments are being seriously distoted.

Still, there is a point. The environs of Washington D.C. are the richest places in the nation. The wealth really must be distributed from there back to the rest of us.

Happy Easter

Christos Voskrese 2014

Christos Voskrese 2014 — Father John Ciurpita doing the traditional Easter basket blessing after today’s 11 a.m. Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Easter Rite Catholic Church in Clifton Heights, Pa.

Christos voskrese, which means Christ has Risen, is the Easter
greeting in Church Slavonic which brings the response Voistinu voskrese
or Indeed, He has risen.

Easter, of course, celebrates the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus and the salvation of Man.
The date for Easter is the Sunday following the first full moon
after the spring equinox, which is always reckoned, regardless of
astronomical observations, to be March 31 as per the Western churches
that use the Gregorian calendar, so Easter always falls between March 22
and April 25.
The dating for Easter correlates with the means the Jews once used
to set the date for Passover, which correlates with Scripture since
Scripture indicates that the Crucifixion of the Lord occurred as the
lambs were being slaughtered for the celebration of that holiday.
In fact, in most Western languages the name for the day is a
cognate of the Pesach which is the Hebrew name for Passover. In Latin it
would be Pascha so Paschal lamb would be Passover lamb.
In English and German, the word comes from Eostre month, which was
basically April, and which the pagans who spoke Germanic languages had
named for the goddess Eostre much as our own March and April are named
for the Greek god and goddess Mars and Aphrodite, respectively.
In Slavic, the holiday is called “Great Night” (Velikonoce in Slovak) or “Great Day” (Velikden in Ukrainian).
There are some caveats regarding the date. The Eastern churches
that use the Julian calendar set the equinox  at April 3, and, of
course, the spring equinox is based on that of the Northern Hemisphere.
So, Christos Voskrese.
