Councilman’s Tax Debt Looks Especially Ugly After Theft Of Gaynor Home

Councilman’s Tax Debt Looks Especially Ugly After Theft Of Gaynor Home –We haven’t posted Delaware County (Pa.) Council stories in a while but Tevin Dix is picking up the mantle.

He put some video snippets of the Jan. 7 meeting on Facebook.

One concerns a Clifton Heights man whose property at 32 Mill St. was tapped for demolition by the county. It was over his objections and without any discussion.

The fellow said that he had the funds to rehabilitate the property but the county took that money during a domestic relations matter.

Watch it here.

We’ll note that Delco’s Domestic Relations Department is a living, breathing daily scandal and has become the subject of protests outside the courthouse with one scheduled for noon, today, Jan. 12.

Tevin also posted comments by Charles Alexander of Marple concerning Councilman Richard Womack.

Alexander says Womack owes $15,000 in back taxes on two properties.

We like Womack. We think he is the only one on Council that might have a soul.

And we certainly understand how easy it is for people to fall on tough times and need to be cut slack.

The problem is that a 91-year-old Upper Darby woman named Gloria Gaynor lost her home due to a $3,500 tax debt caused by confusion during the Covid shut down.

This is theft.

Delco let it happen and Womack has been silent about it.

Silence is violence, right?

The Delco Republicans have also been silent about it, by the way.

  1. In Delco a property can be up to two years delinquent provided the owner has set up a payment plan with the county and are keeping current with said payment plan.

That said, Womack having accumulated $15,000 in tax debt does not inspire confidence in his ability to handle OUR tax dollars. He should have resigned.

I don’t like him or any of the Democrats involved in Delco politics. While he may vote NAY on the actual tax increases look at his voting record on the garbage that is driving the tax increases.

Did he vote for prison privatization. Did he vote to establish the health department. Did he vote for paying ransom when our county records system was hacked. And on and on.

Democrats and their attitude that the fruits of OUR labor is somehow their money combined with their confiscatory tax policy makes them an enemy of Liberty. Period.

  2. I stand corrected. Womack did vote YES to increase the taxes this year. His delinquent taxes are nearly $100,000 not $15,000.

It’s also my understanding that there are over 600 entities in the tax repayment program. Does that mean 600 individual properties or are these 600 individuals with multiple properties like Womack.

Instead of praising the tax repayment plan Womack should be making a statement that the taxes are too high and he is going to cut money from the budget and restore fiscal sanity. Instead he claims he will repay all his delinquent taxes in full this year. He’s in debt most likely as well if he let his tax liability spiral out of control. Where did he just suddenly come up with over $90,000 and why are two properties in arrears for two years nearly $100,000. Is this because the county piles on penalty after penalty, year after year. These are all valid queations.
