Cuba deems Good Friday a national holiday as does Hong Kong, Indonesia and India. This holy day, which commemorates the last hours and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus, is not considered such by the United States, however.
We suppose that in this particular year, 2020 A.D., it doesn’t matter much.
That’s interesting. Although it’s an atheist, Communist dictatorship, it looks like the Castros could not stamp out their people’s faith, and the state observes Good Friday.
It’s also interesting to consider that of the other countries cited, none has a majority Christian population, though Hong Kong probably has a strong minority left over from her Crown colony period. Indonesia is a majority-Muslim country, and India is Hindu, where religious intolerance is always bubbling just below the surface. And yet each observes Good Friday as a national holiday.
