Does Delco GOP Like Losing Or Is It Just Incompetent?

Does Delco GOP Like Losing Or Is It Just Incompetent?

By Bill Lawrence

I’d like to add something to Sharon’s heartfelt and necessary critique of the Delaware County Republican Party that we published, Friday.

I attended the Feb. 24 GOP endorsement meeting for county-wide candidates.

A municipal party leader asked each nomination seeker how much money he or she could get the GOP.

My eyes rolled.

How blindingly ass-backward.

It’s the job of the party to get the money for the candidate not the other way.

And yeah, with a little effort enough money could have been found. There are lot of business owners sickened by the crushing county tax hikes.

A 19-percent one is coming, by the way.

And there are a whole lot of restaurant owners who are less than thrilled with Delco’s incompetent and authoritarian health deapartment.

I’m beyond certain Delco GOP boss Frank Agovino understands this.

So where was the party outreach to them?

And while money is nice, it doesn’t replace motivation.

Once upon a time the GOP was filled with motivated volunteers.

Whatever happened to them?

I have not had a visit from my committeeman in Springfield in several election cycles.

There is no a shortage of people willing to work and most of the issues the Republicans claim to support are supported by most people.

People don’t want perverts running schools.

They do and are installed by Democrats as the GOP bosses silently acquiesce.

The vast majority of Delco residents do not want illegals getting social services much less driver’s licenses.

They most certainly do in this county.

So where are these workers?

Party gutlessness and stupidity have chased them away.

Charlie Alexander — of whom we are not a fan — easily got the signatures to get on the GOP primary ballot.

Legal games kept him off, though.

Imagine if the party told Charlie to give it his best and let the people decide.

He would have lost big and the controversy of the campaign would have garnered beneficial publicity for the party-preferred candidates.

Oh well.

An opportunity squandered.

By the way, if the GOP didn’t act like asses most of Charlie’s very active supporters would have come on board for the general.

Instead, they not merely stayed home but actively opposed the party choices.

A house divided against itself and all that.

And again, while money’s nice, it’s not as important as it once was to get a message out.

The internet is a lot cheaper than TV and newspapers.

It requires people at least half-way knowledgeable about social media, though.

The Facebook postings of the Delco candidates actually made voters dislike them.

Compare the Delco Republican slow-loading website to that of the Delco Democrats.

Which one gives a reason to vote?

This was the vice principal of Haverford High School. He put this picture on his Instagram account that was friended by many students. Where was the Republican outcry?
