GOP Gives Boneheaded Challenge To Charlie’s Petition

GOP Gives Boneheaded Challenge To Charlie’s Petition — Charlie Alexander X-posted, last night, March 18, that the Delaware County Republican Party is challenging his petition for the May 20 primary alleging he incorrectly filed the required financial statements with the county.

This is mind-blowing stupidity by the GOP.

We think stupid games are unnecessary for party-endorsed Liz Piazza and  Brian Burke to beat Charlie.

And a loss by Charlie means that the sore-loser law takes effect preventing him from a third-party run

It might even mean a better outcome.

Treating Charlie with a little respect might even garner his support.

If Charlie should win, of course, it means the people will have spoken and no party can win without its people.

Charlie says he got 1,500 signatures That is 1,250 more than required.

When candidates do the things of which Charlie is accused, it is invariably an innocent misreading of unnecessarily complex and arcane legalese, and easily correctable.

This game playing is only going to cause the many people in this county who think like Charlie to stay home and the GOP will lose a very winnable election.

Even if Charlie doesn’t run as an independent.

And for the record Charlie, Sharon Devaney was never in any secret meetings with the Republican Party.

  1. How about some personal responsibility by Charlie Alexander? Why couldn’t he file his paperwork properly? He’s challenging other Republicans, he needs to own the fact that he has opponents and that they have just as much a right to challenge his paperwork and he does to challenge their paperwork. He should know better than to simply leave it up to fate.

  2. Running for office in Pennsylvania is unnecessarily complicated and designed to keep citizens from participating.

Couple that with the fact there is rarely a truly “open primary” and the stage is set for the Uniparty to continue these games.

Frank Agovino should resign. He hasn’t won us a single election since becoming chair.

  3. Here I thought it was only the Greens who were challenged off the Ballot! Glad to get the Charlie Alexander saga explained.

  5. PA law favors the establishment candiates of both parties, not the grassroots. Candidates need to dot every “i” to make sure they are not outmaneuvered. The party oversees the filing process for its endorsed candidates, who otherwise might easily make filing mistakes. Candidates running on their own don’t have the advantage of that oversight and filing expertise. Charlie may yet prevail due to his illness and the effects of chemo. It is not a good look for the GOP to challenge a guy with cancer.
