On : September 1, 1975 – “Blues For Allah”, the eighth studio album by the Grateful Dead was released.
Produced by the Grateful Dead the title track is a eulogy to King Faisal of Saudi Arabia (also a fan of the band) who had been assassinated by his nephew and namesake Prince Faisal bin Musaid on March 25, 1975. The album is the first to include drummer/percussionist Mickey Hart, who returned to the band after a four year hiatus. The album contains several songs that will become staples of the bands’ live concerts over the years. “Blues For Allah” will peak at #12 on the Billboard Top 200.
