America’s longest traffic light is at Route 23 and Clinton Road in New Jersey. Motorist have been known to sit at the light for up to five minutes.
Just to clarify–does it take the light up to 5 minutes to change, or is traffic just so heavy on those roads that a slow cycle causes traffic to back up?
It’s five minutes for the light — actually lights — to change. The intersection concerns two closely spaced red lights with waits of 2.5 minutes each and with green lights lasting for 7 and 20 seconds.
