Chester Murder Rate Was 2nd In U.S. — Delaware County, Pa.’s entry finished second on a list of murder leaders based on 2017 statistics released in 2018.
Chester, with a rate of .85 murders per 1,000 residents, was only surpassed by East Saint Louis, Ill which had 1.13 murders per 1,000.
Chester’s rate was 15 times that of the national average.
Here’s the list of the top 30 most dangerous cities from 2017. The Delaware Valley region is well represented with both Camden, N.J. (26) and Wilmington, Del. (7) included.
York is also on the list at 22, surprisingly higher than Camden.

Daphne Goggins Keeps Endorsement — The strange vote tonight (Feb. 18) on whether to rescind the Philadelphia Republican Party’s endorsement of Daphne Goggins for mayor granted five days ago overwhelmingly went in favor of the North Philadelphia ward leader.
We were told the tally was 29 -17 to retain the endorsement.
We were also told that the party leadership is still plotting to replace her.

Not that it should matter, but Daphne is a black woman. She would be the first black woman to run for the city’s mayor with a major party endorsement.

Anyway, in a bizarre ham-handed move the Philly Republican boss Michael Meehan summoned ward leaders to reconsider. The vote to reconsider is scheduled for tonight, Feb. 18.
It would be the first time that the party reconsidered an endorsement vote.
The excuse is that Daphne is collecting federal disability payments. Not illegally or unfairly getting the money — there doesn’t seem any debate that she has fibromyalgia — but that she’s getting it.
Slick move Meehan. We think you want to lose. Really.
Why else would you discourage the blacks — many of whom think just like conservative whites — from participation?
