Yes Miranda, it takes up to six months for scurvy to develop in healthy people after vitamin C is removed from the diet. Even then only a tiny daily amount is enough to keep a person healthy. Something to consider the next time you sail the South Seas.

The South won the first, Fort Sumter, and last, Palmito Ranch, battles of the Civil War.

The Battle of Palmito Ranch near Brownsville, Texas, occurred May 12-13, 1865 more than a month after Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House. Historians today are still confused as to why it was fought. Union Private John J. Williams of the 34th Indiana is believed to have been the last man killed in combat.

The final Confederate unit to surrender was the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles stationed in Doaksville Indian Territory and commanded by Brigadier General Stand Watie. They did it on June 23, 1865

Kudos to developer Claude de Botton who is ever working to improve and expandf the Delaware County Veterans Memorial on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square, Pa.

de Botton, who donated the land on which the memorial was built has outlined a plan for the Hall of Prayers that would be the second phase of the monument

The Hall of Prayers would provide a spot for guests to meditate when they visit the memorial. Situated behind the arc, it would also provide a stunning view for drivers approaching from either direction on West Chester Pike.

This photo of Paul Mullen and Joe Sestak appeared in an article in an IBEW newsletter which featured a strong endorsement of liberal Democrat Sestak by Mullen in the 2010 U.S. Senate race. Mullen wants to be the Republican candidate to replace State Rep. Joe Hackett in the 161st District special election for the State House.

Paul Mullen, who is among those seeking the Republican nomination to replace Republican Joe Hackett as the 161st District’s representative in the Pennsylvania State House, is an outspoken supporter of former 7th District Congressman Joe Sestak.

Sestak is a Democrat who leans strong to the left and sought the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Pat Toomey. He is seeking the Democratic nomination for a rematch in 2016.

“With Joe, the communications lines are wide open,” Mullen said in a union newsletter. “. . . He sands tall with the IBEW.”

Mullen is president of the Delaware County AFL-CIO and business manager for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 654. Last fall, he supported Democrat John Kane in his bid for the 26th District State Senate seat against  Republican Tom McGarrigle.

Hackett resigned saying he wants to return to law enforcement.

A special election to replace him has been scheduled for Aug. 4.

Concerning Hell And A Loving God

It’s a slow day and this is from a recent internet discussion concerning Pope Francis

If God has made peace with all, then why send people to Hell? I don’t think God sends people to Hell. The broad road leads to Hell, the narrow one doesn’t. He sends people on the narrow one and tells them not to use the broad one. Concerning Hell And A Loving God

Why is there a Hell? What else can you do with those who insist they are the center of the universe? If one can’t be loyal to the one who loves you more than anything; if one insists on tormenting and demeaning his other children despite all exhortations to change, if one insists on following monsters, you certainly can’t let him into the Kingdom.

So you give him what he wants, an existence without you. You might think that sounds like a mild punishment but God is the ONLY source of good. Without God’s protection you would be subject to every torment you can imagine and all the one’s you can’t for that matter. And without ever any chance of making an appeal to God again. That’s how I look at it.

God is not a sadist. He’s not cruel. He’s going to forget about the people in Hell. He’s going to set it up so He never has to hear them again or have THEM inflict pain on HIM again. Yes, we cause pain to God.

And yes, they will suffer forever just as people without God suffer on earth except magnified infinitely.

How do you view God? As jolly old St. Nick? I view Him as Jesus, my best friend. How do you view God?
