Farewell With Pen In Hand

With Pen In Hand, the community writing program founded by Dr. Cecelia Evans a dozen years ago, ended its run with a farewell party at Media Fellowship House, today, June 2.

Dozens of former participants attended and the tributes to Dr. Evans sent the event well past the scheduled 1 p.m. closing time.
Media Mayor Bob McMahon was among those in attendance.
Viola Benson sang the Lord’s Prayer.
Also receiving honors were the members of the group’s board of directors  Joyce Ellis, Janice Ewing, Ruby Evans, Jerry Duffy, Maryellen Goldfarb, June Clifford, Margaret Thompson, Dr. Mary Buckelew, Dr. Laird Warner, Patrician Tolson, Dr. Carolynne Glover and Carl Pearson and Jodine Mayberry; and program instructors Joyce Ellis, Dr. Jesselyn Etheredge, Dr. Patricia Diaw,  Janice Ewing, Dr. Mary Buckelew, Dr. Carolynne Glover, and Darrell Blair.
 
About 75 people attended including 16 children.
