The seat of Calhoun County, Texas was once Indianola. A wicked hurricane hit it on Sept. 15, 1875 almost entirely destroying the town and killing up to 300. The courageous people rebuilt. Eleven years later, though, on Aug. 19, 1886 another hurricane hit it. Enough was enough. Indianola is now a ghost town.
