On Nov. 22, 1942, the Russian Army surrounded the 270,000 men of the German Sixth Army. Six weeks later, the Battle of Stalingrad ended when the 91,000 Nazi troops still alive surrendered. Less than 5,000 of them were still alive when the war ended.
